Identify an issue or problem in which you are involved that needs to be addressed. For example, perhaps you are trying to deal with a scheduling issue or a problem related to a student’s learning or behavior. Another relative topic worth addressing is distance learning. Using processes learned from this course, you will document steps taken to clarify the problem, attempt to resolve it, and then reflect on the steps that went well, those that did not go well, and what you have learned. Students will be assigned a partner who will use the communication tools we are learning to support each other in addressing their issues. Your partner will offer quality feedback, edits, clarifications, etc. before you submit your Issue Resolution paper.
The issue that I have selected was a behaviors from a student. Keylen M. is 8 years old and has been at the school since Kindergarten. Keylen has a lot of past trauma and due to the trauma has difficulty building relationships with new people and is uncomfortable in new environments. He also is very uncomfortable going to the bathroom at the school. Keylen spent 1st grade learning remotely. Mom reported at the beginning of the year he went to two different YMCA’s due to difficulty with his behaviors and trauma. Keylen has started in the 2nd grade and is having a tough time being in the classroom. He sometimes runs out of the classroom, screams at the top of his lungs, or hides in a corner or under his desk. We as a school have been working together to help Keylen. I have provided some of the discussions we have had with different people in order to get some resolutions that we use for him. We formed a partnership with the schools leadership team, Keylen’s mom, Keylen’s therapists, the school Psychologists, and the schools Social worker. Keylen is now in a comfortable state and feels safe at school. He now has people he feels safe with to bring him to the bathroom.
