I had been passionate about all of the artistic creation, from fantasy manga to popular musicals since childhood, but I found the practicing of creativity is way more than I had expected after I held the unique e-graduation ceremony.
I graduated from high school when the spread of corona was alarming. It was difficult to confirm whether we can have a ceremony because of the rules of social distancing. I felt upset with it since the graduation ceremony for high school is once in a lifetime, so I decided to take action to make the ceremony happen in another way though we mightn’t gather in the hall. The first initiative my friends and I tried is to record interviews with the graduates and play them at the ceremony. Unfortunately, feedback with the pre-play isn’t ideal. We were frustrated with the result since they put lots of effort into it. However, I figured out students were unsatisfied with it because the remote ceremony lacks interaction. The applause, the cheer, the light in the hall…These things contribute to the atmosphere of saying goodbye to the school, which weren’t able to happen merely through videos. How to help students get involved in the ceremony was haunted in my mind. Suddenly, a light bulb goes on in my brain after I saw my brother playing the RPG games. Instead of immediate interaction, how about having several small interactions which are not that prosperous but are so memorable that can slowly build the feeling of touching in student’s heart. As a result, I created the Instagram account and started the polls each day 15 days before the graduation date. The topics of the pulls were about the events students resonate with during high school, including the scene of campus, the annoying GE teacher, the dishes in the cafeteria. The covers for all 15 posts form map of the game. Depending on the reply, I post different content on the account. For example, one of the questions was that would you rather walk on the sidewalk or on the driveways. If more people choose the sidewalk, I post about the cherry tree blooming beside the sidewalk, or I would post about the student chased by the teacher because entering the driveway is prohibited. Since the polls affect the content and result, the interactions are bilateral, and students are more willing to engage in when they get the feedback, unlike just showing the video to them. Also, it encourages students to join the poll to poll the answer they are curious about as only the chosen content would be posted. The outcomes turn out to be really good. The subscribers of the account have increased ten times after the account had started. At the graduation date, the subscribers were over a thousand.
Crisis comes along with the opportunities. This account serves as a memorable point that students can review it again and again when they feel that adult life is tough, which couldn’t be happening if I hold the normal ceremony.
