i‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ need a response to this discussion: In considering the 6 objectives laid out in the syllabus for this course, I would have to say that I personally feel much more acquainted with the world of nursing research. Nursing practice is continually evolving, and the role of nursing research in that evolution is now one that I am more appreciative of. We can not continue to provide the best care possible without the inclusion and evaluation of evidence based research. The large variety of types of research that can be conducted is also something that I have learned. From simple patient surveys, to retrospective chart reviews, to real time practice changes, the possibilities are endless! Each has their own level of credibility, with randomized trials making the strongest case. Establishing a starting point through PICOT questions has helped me be able to identify and establish a starting point for solving clinical problems. Once you have a clearly identified question, finding the information to answer it is that is backed by credible research is the next challenge. We have so many resources available to find necessary information for nursing research, including government websites, professional resources, clinical chart reviews, administration, and quality improvement committees to same a few. Once we find the information, I now know how to appraise the level of credibility of the information by performing a thorough review of the data and how it was collected. Integration of new clinical practice is a whole process that begins with a clinical improvement initiative, progresses to a team development model, includes involvement, excitement and support of the staff, and ends with a reevaluation of the outcome and efforts towards contin‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍uation or change based on the end assessment (Kotter, .). Current priorities in nursing research include ethical considerations and defining patient responsibility. As someone who has participated in quality improvement projects, I appreciate the insight into the dangers of mistaking research for quality improvement. The importance of protecting the patient based on established ethical research guidelines is a topic I now have a stronger understanding of the significance to patient protection (Jarmusik, 2019). I also would like to see improved guidelines on how to increase patient responsibility for their health and lifestyle choices. The dangers of worsening comorbidities are all to real if we do not address this very real issue (Brown & Savulescu, 2019). Considering the amount of knowledge I had about nursing research prior to this course compared to what I now have at the completion of the course, I would say I have learned a lot. This information is something that I hope to professionally grow upon and develop in order to improve my professional practice and patient outcomes. The area of nursing research is now a little more familiar and I feel like I have the ability to help in developing a research study. References Brown, R. C., & Savulescu, J. (2019).
