i‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ need a response to this discussion: Although this course has been very challenging, because of the amount of time need to plan a successful intervention, it has also been a great learning experience on one of the many fields that today’s nursing covers. Meeting all the requirements of this course was a challenge due to work schedules, COVID restrictions, and unplanned life events (I’m sure some of you had similar challenges) but, overall, the skills gained from these past eight weeks have already enhanced my care of patients in the clinical setting (discharge planning and education) as well as giving me a much broader understanding of community assessments and the planning conducted to develop the correct interventions to improve the health of a community and decrease health disparities within a community or a specific group. Developing the teaching plan, I learned to take under consideration the health literacy of the group that I was planning an intervention for, as well as the different learning styles that would apply to that particular group. The great diversity in communities such as mine poses a special challenge for health education, but researching the different groups (ethnicity, cultural norms, languages, health habits, ect.) helps planning of an intervention that will probably provide greater reach. The group openness to the health improvement subject and the environment surrounding the group and ability to implement the changes are also issues of concern when planning a health improvement intervention. Involving the group in planning the intervention will a‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍lso help how the intervention is received. With my specific project, I spent many hours researching for pertinent data and information in order to gain a better understanding of the issue affecting my target group (middle school children). The group was chosen based on an analysis of a community assessment that had been conducted by the Hawaii Department of Health. Although the specific issue of vaping was not outlined as one of the most importance, I found it interesting and decided to conduct more research. I was a bit taken back by the data outlining the vaping epidemic that had been growing in the high school and middle school age kids groups. In this project as well as many other community projects, I learned that developing partnerships with community institutions would make the implementation of such projects easier and bring in different perspectives and ideas from the different modalities in the partnership. The implementation phase was difficult because of the restrictions that are in place now due to the COVID crisis. Nevertheless, I was able to present to my children, whom are of that age group that I had chosen, and I believe the implementation was a success. Applying everything that I had learned throughout my research of best practice for teaching that age group, I developed an educational PowerPoint along with an infographic poster 9with information I believe was well-received by my audience). Throughout the course, all of our research, planning, implementation, and evaluation had to be recorded as proof of the activity, and I believe that requirement has been‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ met.
