Pick one aspect of late Rome, the Byzantine Empire, the early European Middle Ages, or the Christianity of this period that you find most important and explain what you see as its significance. For example, you may want to talk about its influence on modern western culture, or its importance to the Christian Church. Note that I’m not asking you just to summarize or describe your chosen aspect, but to give your discussion group a sense of why you find it significant.
Raise a question about something in the readings that you don’t understand. Your question needs to be fully developed — for example, “I don’t understand the differences between the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire.” You need to be clear as possible about what aspect of the assigned materials you’re asking about, and explain what it is that’s confusing to you. Your classmates may be able to help clear things up for you, and if not I’ll jump in to help.
