Instructions
This assignment will be completed individually. Everyone will prepare an online presentation and a written report for three historical early educators outlining their philosophy about children and education, and the impact of each educators’ philosophy on current early childhood programs.
Two Components of the Assignment
Each person will prepare and provide:
One report about three early philosophers
One presentation about three early philosophers
1. Written Report (20 points)
The report will explain…
1) The ideas and education theories of three early childhood educators: What was each educator’s main idea about children and education?
2) The impact of each educator’s philosophy on current practice in ECE and include specific examples: How have the educator’s beliefs about children and education influenced the current practices in ECE? What are the examples (evidence) you can find to demonstrate the impact of the educator’s beliefs on current practices in ECE?
The report needs to be written based on research (books, academic articles, etc.). A heavy use of websites or other unreliable sources is not acceptable; your marks will be deducted.
APA format is required (a title page and reference page are required). Use the essay format: introduction – body – conclusion. Also, the materials that you use for the report MUST be properly cited and referenced according to APA format. Be aware of plagiarism (See all the announcements).
Minimum 1200 words and maximum 1800 words (excluding the title page and reference page). A proper title page, reference page, doubled spaced, Times New Roman font or Arial font, and font size 12 is required.
2. Presentation (20 points)
Your group will prepare for an online presentation, which will explain the philosophy/ideas of the three chosen educators and their impact on current ECE programs.
You are required to use some visuals, and recording your voice is highly encouraged in the presentation.
Presentations are to be informative, creative, and interesting. You may choose to present the information in a variety of ways (e.g., Powrerpoint, video, blackboard collaborate, etc.). Be creative there are many ways to present this part of the assignment. Or you may choose to create an online poster with a program like glogster.com, a mind map with spiderscribe.com, or even a video and host it on Vimeo or Youtube. Sliderocket.com, prezi.com, powtoon.com or powerpoint offer alternative ways to organize and present materials online as well.
The length of the presentation will be a minimum of 10 minutes and a maximum of 20 minutes. If you are choosing to use Powerpoint, no minimum or maximum slide numbers are required.
Make sure that each of your slides contains proper citations following APA.
Marks assigned for the classroom presentation will be based on the Presentation Rubric, which is attached to the assignment.

Submitting your Assignment
Submit the various parts of your assignment to the appropriate assignment drop box by 11:59 pm October 17th (MST). Please make sure all assignment links, web-pages, etc work before submitting. If you are working in a group, only one person from your group needs to submit the report as well as the presentation.
As indicated in the course outline, in all cases of late submission (with the instructor’s permission), 10% of the assignment grade will be deducted per day, including weekends, for a maximum of 4 days for any assignments received after the due date.
