Here, your task is not only to provide a brief overview of the information, but also to show how it connects to the rest of your paper.  Consequently, both the amount and kind of detail you include in a summary depend on your goals and your audience.  Sometimes a summary is very short (1-2 sentences), other times it may be as long as 1 page.
For this class, you will submit a 1 page summary of the article of your choice.
Your audience for this paper is a first-year graduate student in the field of TESOL or ICC.  This imagined student has just started his/her coursework and has not read the original text. Therefore, you must include the following information in your summary:
What is the title of the article?
Who are the authors of the article?
What did the author study?
Why did the author study this?
What theoretical frameworks influenced the author’s work?
How did the author go about collecting and analyzing the data?
Who are participants of the study?
What did the author find?
Why do these findings matter? For whom are they relevant?
In writing your summary, you should strive to use your own words.
