“Health literacy is an important consideration when caring for people of all ages and backgrounds. It is an essential factor in educating patients/clients about their health, diagnostic tests they will undergo, and treatment decision-making. It is also a key factor in health promotion and disease prevention. Advanced practice nurses must be aware of the role that health literacy plays in how our patients/clients respond to our recommendations, advice and guidance.
For this assignment you are tasked with writing a scholarly paper about health literacy in the population that you will care for as Nurse Practitioner.
For example, as a Family Nurse Practitioner, think about how health literacy may affect all aspects of caring for individuals and families across the lifespan.
How would you measure their health literacy? (10%)
How does health literacy affect health directly or indirectly? (10%)
How could this influence their response to illness and health? (15%)
How would you adapt your intervention(s) with a family based on their level of health literacy? (15%)
How would you communicate this with other health care providers and institutions in the community? (15%)
As this is a scholarly paper, your paper should reflect the most current evidence on the topic. Your paper should contain an abstract, introduction and conclusions (15% of the mark).
