Harvard University has established “Project Implicit” to help individuals identify biases. Despite evidence to the contrary, many in the human service field tend to think that they have few, if any, biases. Go to the website and take three of the Implicit Association Tests (IAT). Choose topics that you can use to help you identify a bias to use in your Social and Cultural Diversity Paper.
What tests did you take? What do you think of the results? Were you surprised? Why or why not? What, if anything, would you like to do now that you have taken these tests?
Assessment Description
After exploring the Harvard University website, students should familiarize themselves with the concept of internal and external loci and how they play a role in controlling implicit and explicit biases, which ultimately affect the type of treatment that we provide as mental health professionals. Understanding one’s Locus of Control can help a MH provider mitigate influences that may negatively impact them professionally and hone in on beneficial/positive tools of growth in how they provide services. Select and take one of the Locus of Control tests. The links to these tests can be found in the Topic Resources.
