Demonstrate your mastery of the lessons covered in this course by completing a hands-on ethics essay. Make sure, when discussing your position, to consider barriers and biases carefully, as we have made a point to do throughout the course.
Do you have a moral obligation to help those in other areas of the globe who are suffering from poverty? Complete this assignment to guide your answer.
Directions–Complete your essay by addressing the following:
Introduce (briefly) the issue of global obligation in at least one paragraph.
State your position (your conclusion) in at least one paragraph. Your conclusion is an answer to the question of whether you have an ethical obligation to help others in the world.
Define the ethical framework or theory you will be using to discuss the morality of the issue from the moral theories we examined in Units I and II in at least one paragraph.
Provide the reasons or premises (at least three paragraphs) why you do or do not have an obligation (statistics, proceeding from definition, etc.). Provide at least one premise in line with the ethical theory or framework you identified in item 3 (for example, if you are using utilitarianism, that the ultimate good will be produced and why).
Identify any weaknesses in your position, like fallacies, rhetorical devices, or personal biases, in at least one paragraph. Are you, for example, considering evidence for and against your position equally? Is your argument valid?
Review the points that support your position in at least one paragraph.
Your completed essay must be a minimum of four pages, including a title page and a reference page (title and reference pages do not count toward total page requirement).
