Guidelines for the Writing this Paper (an excellent paper will fully comply with all of these guidelines):
1.  This is an analytical paper.  This means that I am not asking you to summarize or describe the reading.  Rather, I am asking you to provide a clear analysis of the author’s position.  Accordingly, in terms of the organization of your paper, do not simply follow the order of the article you are analyzing– you must take it apart and reconstruct it in an organized and coherent manner so as to stress what is crucial in the reading. 
2.  I am not looking for your views about the article – stay strictly focused on your analysis of what the author is saying.
3.  Your paper must include a well-developed introductory paragraph.  It should frame your paper as a whole, and include a clear articulation of the article’s main point, which you then develop in the body of the paper.
4.  Your paper must also include a concluding paragraph that pulls the essay together.
5. Each body paragraph should contain a single idea that is fully developed and supported. In turn, the paragraphs should be organized in a logical and orderly way so that the paper flows from idea to idea without repetition or abrupt shifts. 
6.  The writing must be clear enough to understand what is meant.  You paper should make sense to someone who has not read the article you are analyzing .  In other words, by reading your analysis, the uninformed reader should be able to take away a clear understanding of the central ideas of the article.
