Guidelines for Process Analysis
1. This is a directive process analysis. The introduction should give some background information about the process, why you are analyzing it, the end result, and why your audience would be interested in performing the process. It should also state how many steps the process entails. A second introductory paragraph should list the items needed to carry out the process.
2. The thesis should state what process you are analyzing.
3. Use chronology to organize the steps.
4. Select a process that entails a range of 6-10 steps.
5. The steps constitute the development of your paper.
6. Use appropriate transitions to smoothly move through the process.
7. Use imperative mood. That is, you can use second person, “you”, throughout the body of the paper.
8. The conclusion should indicate the process is completed, what the end result is, and the significance of performing this process.
9. The paper should be two and a half pages.
