In order to best prepare for your interview day, please complete the following prework and come prepared ready to dive in:
Sample Lesson Prework (this will likely take you about 2 hours to complete):
· We would like to see you teach a 15-minute English lesson to an 11th or 12th grade class of “students” played by 3-4 of our school leaders.
· As we recognize that 15 minutes is extremely short, we don’t expect to see you teach a full lesson from start-to-finish in that time span. We are interested in seeing how you internalize and introduce the lesson material, engage students in the learning, and measure mastery. At Uncommon, our high school teachers work from shared lesson plans written by a lead lesson planner for that course. For all of our English classes, there is a lead lesson planner, so I have attached the lesson plan, student handout materials, and our lesson internalization one-pager that details our process and provides a roadmap about how to best prepare. These materials are what our teachers receive in advance of the class, and, in turn, it is their responsibility is to internalize the plan and teach it to our students with fidelity. For the interview, we would like to see you teach a 15-minute segment of the attached lesson plan. Please skip the Do Now and start with the Launch & Monitor, aiming to get through Guide Discourse I by the end of 15 minutes. You will be able to share your screen via Zoom during the interview to project a PowerPoint presentation, or you can model your lesson on a whiteboard or poster paper. Whatever works best for you!
