Adolescent movie plots are often based on the special interests of teens, such as identity
development, first love, rebellion, conflict with parents, and teen angst. This paper requires
students to apply the information learned from the course lessons and assigned readings
to the characters in a movie that focuses on the adolescent period.
The paper must be 3-4 typed, double spaced pages in Times New Roman 12-point font with
1” margins. The page limit does not include the title page or reference list.
Grades will be based on the quality, content and thoroughness of responses in parts 1 – 3
(below). Grades are also based on how accurately responses reflect course lecture and reading material. Work should be proofread for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors and for coherence and organization.

1) Introduction
Give the title and brief summary of the chosen movie (approximately ½ page). (3 points)
2) Connection to an Adolescent Issues
Discuss at least 2 developmental issues (such as, identity, autonomy, friendships) from the course that are addressed in the movie and how the adolescent(s) confronted or dealt with this issue/topic. Include relevant background information, definitions, etc. from course lecture or readings in the discussion of the developmental issue. (8 points)
3) Discussion of Adolescent Portrayal and Reflection
Describe one specific adolescent myth or stereotype about adolescence that was
portrayed in the movie. Discuss how this depiction of adolescence was not accurate
according to course information. (4 points)
Reflect on whether you would recommend this movie to an adolescent. Explain why or
why not with concrete examples. (3 points)
