Just as an example, one theory might propose trusting employees to do their job, another theory might indicated that workers cannot be trusted to do the work. Throughout the course we will review ten classic essays by authors who have had a major impact on the theory of organization in both the private and public sector. These include Woodrow Wilson, Max Weber, Fredrick Taylor, Mary Parker Follett, the Hawthorne experiments, Luther Gulick, Henri Fayol, Herbert Simon, Abraham Maslow, and Dwight Waldo. Each is the result of published works and/or research that greatly affected the development of organizational theory down through the decades. They will help provide you with insight into how administration has developed and help answer questions about why certain aspects of organizational structure are emphasized over others. For example, why are personal values and subjective responses to situations given far less priority than objective, rational responses.
