Each student will prepare a website on an issue related to a
legislative policy that has a
negative impact on nursing practice. The website is to discuss the nursing
practice issue, the harm created by the policy, its cost, and recommendations
for amending or revising the policy. Additionally, an email to the appropriate
legislator regarding the issue will be composed and be made available on the
site. There are several websites that assist with composing web pages including
Wix.com or Google sites. The website will need to be published for
sharing with instructors, but it can be closed once the assignment is completed.

You may select any legislative policy that you’d
like but a few examples of legislative policies impacting nursing to get you
started on your journey include any related to:
Staffing ratios
Scope of practice
Physician supervision of APRNs
Workplace violence
*Important Note: You could also look at the inaction of
legislative policy (for example, some states that have not enacted legislation
may be harming nurses in that state whereas other states have enacted the
legislation and it has helped nurses) – in other words the “act of
omission” vs. the “act of commission”
