In your first essay, you looked at the development of early civilizations. In your second essay, I’m asking you to go a bit further. We’ve covered quite a bit of time and have seen the development of civilization from small societies to massive empires. Think about the elements that contributed to this growth. For your essay, I’d like you to consider the following topics: Geography, Religion, Economics, Technology, and Leadership. Choose ONE of those concepts, and in a 2-3 page (700-1000 words) essay, explain how it contributed to the advancement of civilization. How did the concept allow civilizations to progress and spread? You are not limited to discussing merely one civilization. Rather, I want you to consider ALL of the civilizations we’ve covered thus far. Look for commonalities across them.
As you begin to organize your thoughts for your essay, be sure to provide examples from the course textbook. You’ll want to cite those pieces of information within your essay using in-text citations. While you can certainly do outside research and bring in material from other sources, I am only requiring you to use the course text. If you do bring in additional sources, be sure to include those on your Works Cited page along with the course text. For this essay, you can use MLA, APA, or Chicago Style, but be consistent with the style format.
