I am an Emergency room technician technician that also assists our case managers and UM coordinators as part of my job. I have been doing this job a little over two years.
I became interested in social work because a friends mother is a social worker and it sparked my interest. After my dad got sick and we needed the services of the hospital social worker, it solidified my decision. They were attentive, patient, and helpful through our hard time. The type of comfort they were able to give and my family, made me want to be able to provide that to others in need.
These values are the type that I have tried to live by throughout all of my jobs so that I could build trust, foster relationships, and help people to the best of my ability.
I understand that the different systems of oppression have negatively impacted disenfranchised communities in ways such as, limiting employment options, educational options, being passed up for promotional opportunities, discrimination, and so on.
I’m calm and understanding, always willing to lend a hand and be helpful. At my job as an emergency room technician and case management assistant, I am praised for how patient and calm I am in the face of angry frustrated patients and that while I set healthy boundaries, I still go beyond my job to help them.
I think that my communication skill could use improvement, I can sometimes be a blunt person and I want to work on that.
