Critically examine the substance and context of these documents, considering the following elements:
Who the author is;
Who the audience is;
What type of document (i.e. public speech, confidential correspondence, etc.) it is;
What the main message of the document is;
What the author’s values or assumptions are (either direct or implied); and
What the historical context of the document is.
Consider what can we learn about the Conservative Ascendancy from these documents?  What questions do they raise?
Secondary Question: To what extent, and in what ways, do you see contemporary politics being shaped by the Conservative Ascendancy and its challengers?
