Compare the values between a typical, 21st-century American family, the ancient ideal (as best seen in the concept of filial piety) of a Chinese family, and the practices of Native American child-rearing.
Select at least 2-3 specific differences between the three cultures. Be sure to use examples and quotes from this week’s modules (either the article or the video) to highlight the differences.
If you’re having trouble deciding what to write about, take a minute after reading and watching this week’s module and jot down what values were most stressed through the concept of filial piety.
Then think about the most important values your family passed on to you.
Finally, please do not use hyperbole or attempt to “judge” either culture. I have found it popular for students to begin to trash American cultures, without really thinking through why we do things the way we do. Also, we might be tempted to use extreme examples of bad behavior. Please try not to use the worst or most immoral examples you can find in the US!
