For this assignment you are to “solve” a historical mystery, or at least make a solid argument for one. In short, you are going to play the part of a “historical sleuth.” First, you will select a historical mystery or controversy that you find interesting or intriguing that fits within the context of the class. Second, you will conduct an investigation into this mystery or controversy until you have solved the mystery, or feel that you can make a strong argument for your case. You will then write a paper that explains in detail your solution to the mystery.
