It wasn’t until I had started working at anursing home at 16 years old that I realized how much it consumes and takes over a persons mindand affects their daily lives, relationships and consumes them as a whole.Listening to residents reminisce on their childhoods, their families they created, storiesabout the wars they had been in, or the farms and businesses they ran for over 60 years.. I alwaysquestioned, “How did this strong person who was able to handle so much mentally and physicallyeveryday for such a long time, end up forgetting their own family members, or where they are,even what they ate for breakfast twenty minutes before?”I have thought about this on and off for about 10 years…What exactly causes Alzheimer’sdisease? I have read different articles explaining different causes for Alzheimer’s, there are manydifferent factors into what may cause it… Trauma to the brain being one of the causes that I foundinteresting…old age, Amyloid plaques, genetics are some of the other causes. As advanced in thetechnological and medicinal world as we are today there is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease..
So as I ponder on the causes as well as the lack of cure for the millions of people and theirfamilies that struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. I wonder if there is no cure, and not just onespecific cause… What can be done to prevent Alzheimer’s disease? That is what I propose mypaper will be written on, the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease in our daily lives..
Library Sessions
Over the course of several class sessions in the library, you will have the chance to gain an understanding of library resources, develop your topic, and find the sources for your research project.
Developing a Topic
In order to give your topic a focus and a sense of purpose, I am placing three constraints on you. First, you will need to choose a topic about which you can find sufficient information on the Opposing Viewpoints in Context database, which is available on the college’s library website.
Second, your topic—and eventually your thesis statement—will need to have a problem-solution structure. In other words, you will eventually make an argument for (1) why a particular social issue, trend, or phenomenon is a problem and (2) why the solution you propose is the right one.
Finally, you should choose a topic on which you do not already have a strong opinion. Instead, you should select an issue about which you are curious but have no preconceived notions. That way, you can develop your thesis on the basis on the information you find in your research—not on the basis of an existing opinion or belief.

Part I: Proposal and Questions
This is the first part in our three part research assignment. It is a proposal that will include your research question that ideally develops from other questions. The topics must investigate problems that need to be solved.
The paper should include the following three items:
1. Background and context
2. A research question that develops from other questions
3. A methods section that discusses the types of sources you plan to use.
This paper will not have a conclusion. Only the three parts above are required. It serves as a guide to your research plan.
Part II: Annotated Bibliography
For the annotated bibliography you need to provide a citation for each of your four sorces. After each citation, you need to provide a one paragraph summary of the article. You will also need a one paragraph explanation about how you intend to use that source in your paper. Be specific as possible here.
Part III:The Research Essay
Throughout this process, keep in mind that your ultimate aim is to persuade your readers of your thesis, not to summarize or respond to the sources you have found. In other words, your sources should serve the purpose of framing and supporting your argument
In order to earn credit, your research essay should
have a clear thesis statement, framed as the statement of a problem and its solution;
be well organized;
include specific reasons, as well as responses to counterarguments;
make use of at least four sources, including one book, one scholarly journal article from Opposing Viewpoints, and two other sources from that database;
cite evidence in the form of at least three quotes in MLA style, with a Works Cited page, as well as paraphrased information indicated by in-text citations;
contain few to no sentence-level errors; and
be 4 pages in length.
