All,
Earlier this year, the global economy experienced a Black Swan event in the middle of the COVID pandemic where a shipping vessel larger than the Empire States Building with the ability to carry 20,000 shipping crates (you typically see loaded on trains) ran aground in the Suez Canal when the Egypt area experienced a substantial wind storm.
Some estimate the impact of this on the world trade are losses of $400 Million an hour given each day 50+ ships are delayed in channeling the canal. The only option is a two week trip around the Horn of Africa.

Questions: (1) Given 10-12% of all international shipping goes through the Suez Canal, what impact will this have on the US and when? (Hint: Many things from China come through the Suez Canal and export goods from the US utilize inbound shipping containers to export their goods abroad)
(2) What impacts will this potentially have on prices and/or access to certain products on US shelves? Which ones do you anticipate being impacted?
(3) What products do you feel are vital in the US not exporting and ensuring there is a National Stockpile in the event of an emergency (such as this, hurricane, pandemic, etc…)? [Hint: Reference your Journal Article provided for Journal Article #1 referencing PPE (COVID masks, ventilators, etc…) and the National Stockpile.
(4) Why is this news on every major news channel, website or app given it is such a significant event? Should it be? What is the impact on our society if news such as this is not prioritized?
