Exceptionality Handbook– The Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA) provides definitions of the 13 disability categories. These federal definitions guide how states identify who is eligible for a free appropriate public education (FAPE) under IDEA. You will research and create a comprehensive investigative handbook to address high incidence disabilities/exceptionality categories in an easy-to-read format.
The investigative handbook in the form of a Written Product. You should include a simple Table of Contents indicating each of the disabilities /exceptionalities under study and the topics covered under each disability/exceptionality. Each section of your handbook product must include the following headings and descriiptions: Definition of the Disability/Exceptionality Characteristics of the Disability, Accommodations and Adaptations, Working with Families, Instructional Strategies, and Organizations that work with the particular disability and scholarly citation(s). The handbook product should be adaptable to all grade levels, inexpensive and easy to create. The information contained within the handbook product should be entirely research based and in your own words. You must use APA 6 for citations and references. Below is a list of the categories:
1. Students who are Gifted
2. Students with Emotional Disturbance
3. Students with Speech/Language Impairments/ English Language Learners
4. Students with Learning Disabilities in the area of Reading/Writing
5. Students with Learning Disabilities in the area of Math
