You will analyze the public health response of the U.S. or a developing country regarding a natural disaster. For example, you might analyze the response to a recent disaster such as a specific hurricane, major flood, tornado, wildfire, or earthquake. As part of the analysis, you should:
Describe the type of disaster and where/when it occurred.
Evaluate media reports, as well as formal reports from agencies such as the WHO, the CDC, and/or city/county/state governments, or other websites that discuss the chosen disaster and can provide a glimpse into the public health response to the disaster.
Consider the effectiveness of the public health response. Identify barriers and facilitators associated with the public health response.
Discuss lessons learned from the public health response.
Once your analysis is complete, you should create an 8-10-minute narrated PowerPoint/slideshow (approximately 10-12 slides) that:
Describes the disaster.
Identifies barriers and mitigators affecting the ability of the public health community to respond effectively.
Discusses at least 2 lessons learned by the public health community that can be carried forward to future responses.
Includes references/citations as appropriate.
