The counseling appeared to be progressing well and Joy was beginning the difficult processof talking about her grief. The last time you met with Joy she was angry and distressed. Choose 3 of the 6 sociological theories and describe how those theories fit choices you’ve made in your life. Please give multiple examples (for each theory) of when and how you’ve applied each theory. For example;
During my time as an athletic administrator, I’ve hired many head coaches for women’s sports. For each search I would inevitably end up with a pool of approximately 75% men and 25% women. For most of my searches (after choosing the best candidates), there were very few females that qualified for an interview. Understanding that only 33% of collegiate head coaches were women, I felt a duty to hire more women in the head coaching profession. Therefore, I spent hours on the phone with my colleagues around the country trying to find qualified females for my open positions. When the search was concluded and I brought candidates to campus for an interview, I always made sure that 2 out of my 3 finalists were women. This is a “real life” example of the application of Feminist Theory.
Please turn in a 3 FULL page, double spaced paper on how you’ve applied these theories in your own life. You can use sport and non sport examples. Please turn in a word or PDF document.
The 3 theories I chose are Social Exchange Theory, Conflict Theory, and Symbolic Interactionism
From the Toledo Blue Stockings Manager Charlie Morton’s decision in the late 180
From the Toledo Blue Stockings Manager Charlie Morton’s decision in the late 1800’s to play Moses Walker, to the 2020 Milwaukee Bucks protest of the shooting of Jacob Blake, professional athletes have continually exercised their right to peaceful protest. As a matter of fact, peaceful protest is the cornerstone of US democracy.
Your assignment is to profile an athlete or team that used their platform to protest social injustice. In addition, I’d like to know whether you believe your athlete or team is or will be on the “right side” or “wrong side of history”. For example, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently apologized for the league’s treatment of players and not listening more closely to Colin Kaepernick and other players’ protest over social injustice. On the other hand, Hitler’s propaganda of an Aryan “master race” backfired on him when German athlete Carl Ludwig “Lutz” Long gave Jesse Owens technical advice that helped Owens win the long jump in the 1936 Berlin Olympics (Long won the silver).
Please use references to back up the facts of your profile (author and date) and address your thoughts on “the right or wrong side of history” choice in a minimum of three FULL pages, double spaced.
