Discussion Prompt:
Part 1:
Now that you have had the opportunity to lear more about what active supervision is, how it works and why it is so important I want you to share with your group mates the three tips you learned that you found to be of great importance to proper active supervision and the safety of the children when in your care. Discuss how these tips will improve the environment for both the children and the staff.
Part 2:
**Scenario for Active Supervision in a Childcare Center:**
You are supervising a group of 12 preschool-aged children during free play in a large outdoor playground. There are multiple activity zones: a sandbox, a climbing structure, swings, and a grassy area for running and games. As the children disperse to different areas, you notice:
Two children arguing over a toy in the sandbox.
A group of children playing tag, running toward a section of the yard near the fence.
A child sitting alone, quietly observing the others but not participating.
A child climbing higher than usual on the play structure, hesitating to come down.
As the caregiver in charge, how would you actively supervise in this situation? Describe the steps you would take to ensure the safety and well-being of all the children, addressing potential risks without disrupting their play. How would you engage with the children while maintaining a balance between safety and allowing them independence?
This scenario provides an opportunity to apply active supervision principles in a typical childcare setting.

PART 1—-
Let us examine the concept of the afterlife and how it plays into our lives.
After reading the “Death after Death” chapter, do you think being immortal is a good thing or a bad thing? Would our identity change drastically, if we knew we had no chance of death? Explain.
Why do you think people believe in spirits revisiting such as those in the video? Is there a need to believe? Are spirits another version of immortality? Why or why not?
In the depictions of death, or the ruler of the underworld, what similarities do you see between the stories/myths this week? Do you see any similarities from any other myths from last week?
Do you see these myths/stories as a representation of our questions about the afterlife? Are your own beliefs/questions depicted?
PART2——
Let us examine the concept of the afterlife and how it plays into our lives.
What do you think Hades, Persephone, and Demeter could symbolize?
Why did her father throw Sedna out of the kayak? Are there similarities between Sedna and Amaterasu?
In your opinion, what does the Ancient Egyptians’ concept of the afterlife –and the challenges along the way- reveal about the ancient society’s values? Are these values still relevant today?
How does what we imagine or believe will happen to us after we die influence the choices we make in this life? Do you see the myths as a representation of this?

The topic lends itself to a humanities approach. There are a lot of ways to go with it. I’ll look forward to seeing how you go with the
revision.&bsp; So… just in general, I’m really hoping that our next version of the paper will be more than just the addition of a new section that brings in the Arts and the Humanities. See if you can work on the whole paper as it is so far and make it make sense altogether as a hybrid/mixture of the
“cultures” rather than a set of them one after the other. Better revisions will be more than the sum of its
parts. No need to overhaul or start from scratch, though.&bsp; A few changes where they make sense to what’s here so far and maybe something near the start that makes clear what you’re up to now, given what you’ll have been doing with your new reading and thinking.&bsp; Your new sources and ideas will make what came before it better: you’| give your readers something to think about. Think of it as a chance to do something unlike anything you’ve done before.&bsp; A chance to begin to transform yourself, as well as your readers. We’ll be posting everyone&squo;s paper in our last week of the course, and we’ll have a chance to discuss one another’s essays.&bsp; Keep that in mind, too, as you work over the next couple of weeks.
And just another research idea: you can find journal articles in many of the humanities (philosophy, history, literature/ English, art history, music, etc) in Libraries’ journal indexes: once you’re logged in… in Library – 1) click on Find, 2) choose Articles, 3) click on «See all research databases,” 4) look for «All Subjects” box, 5) choose a subject, or go straight to &Idquo;Humanities,” where yoursquo;lI see the “Best
Bet” Wilson Index (&Idquo;Humanities Full Text”).

Are the examples and observations I use from my discourse community useful, detailed, and relevant? How can I tie my examples/observations more directly to the terms and concepts I am defining?
Based on what I know and have learned about academic writing, is my essay effective and representative of academic writing style? Do I have a clear purpose and supporting topic sentences? There are a variety of literacy assessments that fulfill a different purpose in the reading process. Before selecting an assessment, educators should identify the reason for assessing students. The use of assessment data is essential to effective instruction and therefore it is important for educators to know and understand the basics of literacy assessment.
Allocate at least 4 hours in the field to support this field experience.
Part 1: Selecting and Administering Assessments
Collaborate with your mentor to select two literacy assessment tests you will administer to a student selected by your mentor. These assessments may come from information available in the topic Resources, such as DIBELS or EasyCBM.com, or you may use assessments your mentor provides. The tests you select may assess letter names, letter sounds, phoneme segmentation, word reading fluency, oral reading fluency, reading comprehension, or any other appropriate literacy skill. (Each assessment should only take 1-2 minutes to administer.) Administer the assessments.
Part 2: Analyzing Assessment Data
After administering the assessment, collaborate with your mentor teacher to analyze the assessment data and to complete the “Student Reading Profile” template as directed.
Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the mentor teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.
Submit the completed “Student Reading Profile” template.
APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
