Feel free to research companies and provide examples of how companies apply some of the examples that you’ve offered. The final paper must have the following key sections, clearly identified, though they can be titled creatively to reflect your question and interests:
I. An introduction that states the problem and why your topic is important.
The research question, clearly and concisely stated as a question. What do you hope to answer with this research? This section should also include definition of terms.

A) Include at least TWO companies (from the same industry) in your analysis and B) together compare & contrast the reports of the individual firms, including:
1. Reporting approaches used by the firms (e.g., use of the GRI framework, UN SDGs, any other frameworks, etc.),
2. Primary supply chain-focused ESG initiatives (at minimum environmental and social)
3. Approaches to ensure suppliers are in compliance with codes of conduct (governance)
4. Goals and performance (across the companies, particularly in regards to similar initiatives such as reduced water use, etc.)
5. Company-level collaborations with NGOs. Which? Why?
6. Industry-level SC and ESG initiatives: are there initiatives that are ‘larger’ than an individual firm and being implemented at the industry (or an industry association) level to address sustainability issues and reduce risk to creating value? Is the industry working with any NGOs on initiatives? Which? Why?
7. Which form is performing best? How did you determine the best performer?
Using the SC Disclosure Radar and SC Transparency Matrix diagrams in the ‘What’s Your Strategy for Supply Chain Disclosure’ (SCM-SUST introduction pdf file) article can be a helpful way to organize your information and assess the firms.
ALSO: (8) As a foil to the individual companies’ self-reported information, spend some time researching what other organizations (e.g., NGOs) have to say about the individual company and industry activities, checking to see if they are engaged in potentially harmful activities not mentioned in their report. Comment on these issues (or the lack of them), being sure to cite their sources. This section is now titled, “What are they REALLY doing?” after a suggestion by students in a recent offering of this course.
(9) Finally, what did you learn in doing this assignment? What was new/surprising for you?
The report should be about 1,500-2,000 words. Using tables to organize information is strongly recommended, especially items 1-5. Do include an introduction section that highlights the industry you’ve selected, the firms you are including in the analysis, and the most important sustainability issues facing that industry. Also, include in the introduction include your primary findings and take-aways. There is a sample paper from 2022 (sustainability in supply chains sample pdf file). Please follow that sample format and read the attached textbook “Supply Chain for Operation dummies pdf file(scmfd)” on chapter 19 to understand the material better. Additionally, some lecture notes and articles are also attached( “SCM-SUST introduction” and “get ready for more transparent sustainable reporting” pdf file) to assist you in completing the assignment. Also, some TED talks video link regarding ESG if needed: https://www.ted.com/talks/ray_anderson_the_business_logic_of_sustainability?showsSubtitleTooltip=true

(DEEP EXPERTISE ON SUPPLY CHAIN EXPERTISE/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED + BUSINESS ARTICLE BACKGROUND – 20 APRIL LATEST FINAL DRAFT, FULL TIME HELP PREFERABLY)
DETAILED assignment Instructions are attached under INSTRUCTIONS file + Powerpoint notes to READ beforehand + PDF file to FOLLOW the ECONOMIST template for this paper – Kindly also do pre-reading on the topic alongside reading ATTACHED notes before proceeding. It will give you a clear preamble on the business report that follows.
Objective: To analyse what made specific Service-oriented companies survive and thrive during the disruptions from the pandemic…
Select one company of interest (NTUC FairPrice), and then using the tools, methods and frameworks taught and/or contained in the reference books, analyse the Service Operations in that company and argue for what made that specific company survive and thrive. It is strongly discouraged to use tools unrelated to Service Operations Management/other topics such as Porter’s five forces, SWOT, PESTLE analysis etc.
You are also asked to provide recommendations for improvement of the operations of these company/sectors if another pandemic – or turbulence of similar effect, hit us in the next decade.
Your assignment needs to have a business report format, so having an executive summary, an introduction, main body and conclusions/limitations, and read and look like an Economist/FT/Business Week/etc article (example https://www.economist.com/sites/default/files/econbriefs.pdf) 4000 words, NO NEED for REFERENCE PAGE JUST LIKE A REPORT – BUT GIVE IN-TEXT CITATION OR FOOTNOTE WHEREVER NECESSARY.
Please note that this paper is research heavy and with a deadline of ONLY ~2 weeks – It is NECESSARY to have background knowledge on 1. How to write up a Business Article/Report 2. The three main concepts required in this assignment (IHIP, 4Vs, 5 Performance Objectives/Competitive Factors). Do NOT simply data-dump in information without linking back arguments and evidence used – I trust that there is sufficient enough background experience and expertise to fulfil this.
This Article/Report must be completed by the 20 April LATEST for the final draft, and I am unfortunately not able to give any extensions to this. However, let’s aim to produce a perfect piece of work and I seek your kind understanding in your full-commitment towards this alongside mine. I will be available close to 24/7 daily should you have any questions regarding this – I am in this as much as you are and I expect an excellent job done. Please work hard!
