This assignment has two parts. Use this Google Docs Worksheet templateLinks to an external site. (make a copy) and then use it to complete both portions of the assignment. When you are done with your worksheet, download as a PDF and upload that in your assignment on Canvas.
Part 1
Using a simple table, similar to the Module 3 course documents examples, select one BBO and dissect a recent Instagram story that the BBO has shared recently.
Take a minimum of 3 screenshots (or screen recordings) from ONE story and indicate under each of the three slides:
What was the goal of the content
What was done well (or not), think about the goal and if that resonated and connected with the intended audience.
What features from the app did they leverage (or should they have leveraged)
Any other pertinent details that help contextualize the story and its success (or failure)
Part 2
Using what you have learned from the course documents, it’s your turn to get creative and create a Instagram story to tell a story of your choosing.
Select a brand, business or organization
Think about the goal of your story and what makes the most sense to connect that story with your intended audience.
Create an Instagram story
Using your class Instagram account with a minimum of 3 slides (max 9 slides). You can create them in whatever format you prefer (photo, graphic, video* etc.)
Things you must include:
The story must make sense from start to finish and be consecutive. You can make a series where the slides are all independent story themes (like the BBC example) but the user should progress through the story and it should be a start to finish concept. It should be clear while viewing the story what your intended goal of the story is.
Use at least 5 app features (text, gifs colors, lens, stickers, etc.)
Use at least 1 interactive feature (link, questions, poll, quiz).
If you create any kind of video content, make sure it includes accessibility best practices (captions, etc.)
If you include any kind of music, make sure it is PG and appropriate for this class.
Once you create your story in the app, you should save it to your highlights.
You do not need to create a fancy cover for the highlight, but do name it so I can easily find it in the app.

During this class, we reviewed various theories concerning race, ethnicity, and inequalities experienced by different social groups. Considering the specific group you are studying, please choose three theories that you believe contribute to understanding the conditions and status of your group within society. Explain each theory’s principles and provide examples demonstrating how to apply the theory to your chosen group. Paper length 1-2 pages single single-spaced Here is a list of some theories and concepts reviewed; many of you have already written about this in your assignments. Therefore, I recommend reviewing and using previous assignments if you have them. If you do so, follow the previous guidelines, explain the theory, and provide examples demonstrating how you can apply the theory to your chosen group. Race and ethnicity. After the interview, write a paper (4-5 double-spaced pages) consisting of the following three sections: (1) Describe the experience of trying to find someone to interview. Include how many phone calls you had to make, what your feelings were when asking a stranger to help, how it felt if you calls were not returned. The idea is that you will become aware of the parallel processes between how you felt and how a client might feel in similar (i.e., asking for help, calls not returned, etc.) circumstances. Please compare the feelings you had to the feelings a client might have. (2) Summarize the information gathered during the interview and include the information from A-G above as well as other related content. (3) Conclude the paper with your assessment of the interview and the work that is accomplished in the agency. Include how you experienced this assignment (i.e., what did you learn, how did you feel during the interview, do you feel differently about social work, etc.)

The research essay involves a critical analysis of the rise of populist politics in liberal democratic societies in the West and beyond. You can use any country-specific case to collect relevant scholarly and popular literature on the topic.
Your essay must provide a persuasive analysis of both the demand-side and supply-side causes of the rise of populist politics in your selected country. Please carefully read the following article to learn about the causes of populism in the West. This article was discussed in class on March 14 and 19.
Sheri Berman, 2021. “The Causes of Populism in the West,” Annual Review of Political Science, 24: 71-88 (available on D2L)

In collective bargaining negotiations, there are many different ways that the management team can approach working with the elected representatives of their employees (the union). In some cases, management views the union as partners in the business – there to help troubleshoot problems, improve employee morale, and generally help the business grow. In other cases, management views the union as a means to an end – necessary, but not preferred. In still other cases, management views the union as the enemy – something that should be eliminated if possible, but at least reduced in power so as to be inconsequential. Often, these attitudes are not permanent, and may change over time. However, the personalities of the individuals that make up the leadership for both sides will often play a large role in the attitude of management towards the union, for good or ill.
Below is an outline of 5 different philosophies that management may take towards the elected representatives of their employees. Consider each of these philosophies, and as we discuss each of the major sports, consider how the philosophy changes through time.
For this assignment, decide which one of these 5 philosophies bests describes the NBA management philosophy towards the NBAPA at one of the times below. In order to support your decision, you should provide an example for as many bullet points as you can, being as specific as possible. You can use outside sources to support your claim. You can also use specific language or articles from the period in question, or reactions by either side as guidance. Be sure to properly cite your resources. Pick one time period from the list below, and submit through the drop box function. Responses should be no more than 3 pages, double-spaced in Times New Roman 12pt font.
Time Period 1: 1995 – 1999
Time Period 2: 2005 – 2008
Time Period 3: 2011 to 2015

Instructions: Develop a simple research proposal. The goal of this assignment is to familiarize students with the scientific method as it relates to social science.
Your main research question
Your hypothesis(es)
The variables in the study (dependent and independent)
At least three related peer-reviewed research articles related to the question/topic. These articles should help you better understand the topic and what research has already been done in this area. Provide a few sentences to summarize how these articles are relevant to your proposal.
The research method you would use to answer the research question. If using a survey or interview approach, provide a sample of at least three questions the team would use.
If using a content or secondary analysis approach, provide a link or description of the data you would use.
If using a participant observation approach, provide the five “W”s (who, what, when, where, and why) for the observer’s plan.
If using an experimental approach, provide a description of the experiment (conditions, where you would get participants, etc.)
Do your best to develop a feasible (realistic) plan for collecting data, bearing in mind the costs, time, and manpower required. (For example, sending a questionnaire to everyone in the US is not feasible. Doing a 7-year observation of 1,000 families, also not feasible).
*Addressed all five assignment components with depth.
*Responses are relevant to the topic and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the scientific method.

Purpose
This purpose of this assignment is to have you think about your specific Sociology Skills and how they can be used to improve your applications for employment/graduate school. Having the ability to speak strongly of your skillsets will make you a more competitive applicant. Instructions
There are many examples out there for writing a Career Statement (you can google this). However, for this assignment I would like you to explain your work and life experiences, as well a few of your passions, as they relate to the workforce you plan to enter, your work ethic, your long-term goals in the specific career field, and why you are someone they should call for an interview.
A few things to keep in mind: Keep it short, no more than 2 pages. This is a firm requirement. Statements longer than two pages will not be read by others. Be honest, but not too honest. It’s okay to reveal that you have “experienced some hardships” in life, but you might not want to reveal items that might be too personally controversial (i.e. addictions, arrests, other illegal activities, etc.). I’ve had former students reveal challenges and show how they overcame those challenges. This makes you human! If you have questions about what to say or not to say, feel free to email me and ask. You want them to remember you. They need a reason to set your statement in the “Contender” pile. This can be from the style of your writing (creative, humor, descriptive) or from the content – but find at least one way to have something that makes a reader say “hmmm, this is interesting.” It might not guarantee you the job, but remember – you are trying to get a face-to-face interview first! ALWAYS use words that are in the job advertisement. Use the same words that the employer is using to advertise. Employers will search your documents to see how many “matches” it has to the job advertisement. For this assignment, try to use words you have seen in the job ads that we have shown you in class. You should have one paragraph devoted to your Sociology Skills. This should be based on each of your own unique education and training, but generally should be strengths that you bring to the job that other applications might not be describing. For each of you, it can begin like this….
“My education at UNLV in the Sociology Department gave me important skills that translate well to this career (or job). First, I …….
Second, I….. And third, I ……… ***This where you insert the skillsets from the ASA website shown in class and discussed in class. I should see very clear skill language here. Grading Criteria
It should be typed, 12-point font, and no more than 2 pages. This assignment is worth 100 points.
Grading will be based on how well you address each of my concerns above and how well you integrate the course materials into your career statements.

Purpose: To process information in your lecture and reading material on Social Disorganization Theory; to apply your knowledge to an analysis of a documentary.
Tasks:
After watching/reading listening to Lecture Module 4 module video and the required documentary on Amazon Freevee, please do the following by posting a paper or uploading an audio message or video of up to 5 minutes long. This assignment should take approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete after doing the preparation for the module. Try to work on it gradually if possible. You should do completely original work and cite all sources. For this assignment, you are expected to draw solely upon your textbook, my lecture and the documentary (and of course your own thoughts) and answer both #1 and #2 below.
Answer questions 1 and 4 at the end of Chapter 5 (Social Disorganization) under Exercises and Discussion Questions. Write (or record) your answers (150-word ) minimum. questions: 1. Explain how shaw and mckay’s (1942/1969) theory moved us away from “types of people” explanations. 5. Consider the city you live in and where the safe areas are as well as where one might likely go to buy drugs or find a prostitude. what other factors characterize those areas of the city? Relate social disorganization theory generally, and Sampson and Groves’ theory of social disorganization specifically as you analyze the video, Can You Dig This? (200-word minimum) https://www.amazon.com/Can-You-Dig-This-Finley/dp/B018T2EH72
See ASA Style Guidelines for additional help on how to cite and reference and the examples in the course schedule on your syllabus. Note if your browser requires you to use keyboard shortcuts to cut and paste your assignment draft from a file on your word processing program onto the Cougar Course textbox, these are the instructions. If you have a PC, hold Control & C to copy and Control& V you can paste. If you have a Mac, hold Command & C to copy and Command & V to paste. Or you can upload a file or record an audio or video file.

Annotated bibliography of my final research project. This is the info on my research proposal and my instructor’s feedback on it for context:
Content
Investigate the different ways Fashion brands use storytelling in their advertising campaigns, and how these shape consumer views and values within the fashion industry.
Methodology
Create an analysis on a variety of fashion brand’s advertising campaigns to compare their use of storytelling. For this analysis I will gather social media content, print ads, and sponsored articles on fashion magazines. Brands will go from fast fashion to luxury, in order to have a broader view of the different approaches they utilize. The focus of the analysis is on storytelling so my attention will go towards plot development, character portrayal, and thematic content. I would also like to perform an interview where I show people different ads and they try to identify what’s the “story” behind the images.
Comment
I expect to find the foundations on storytelling techniques brands use in their ads to compel consumers into buying their products, what characters they choose and why, how choice of colors, music, and setting affect these stories, and if these narratives do carry on with consumers.
Feedback: Your proposal has a good foundation, but it would benefit from some refinement. Here are some suggestions for improvement:
Strengthen the Thesis Statement: Clearly state what you expect to find about how storytelling in fashion advertising shapes consumer views and values.
Expand the Methodology: Provide more details on data collection (number of brands, interview format).
Connect Analysis to Sociology: Explain how you will analyze the storytelling elements (plot, characters, themes) in relation to sociological concepts like consumer identity and social status.
Proofread: Address the grammatical errors to ensure clarity.
