After the interview, write a paper (4-5 double-spaced pages) consisting of the following three sections: (1) Describe the experience of trying to find someone to interview. Include how many phone calls you had to make, what your feelings were when asking a stranger to help, how it felt if you calls were not returned. The idea is that you will become aware of the parallel processes between how you felt and how a client might feel in similar (i.e., asking for help, calls not returned, etc.) circumstances. The research essay involves a critical analysis of the rise of populist politics in liberal democratic societies in the West and beyond. You can use any country-specific case to collect relevant scholarly and popular literature on the topic.
Your essay must provide a persuasive analysis of both the demand-side and supply-side causes of the rise of populist politics in your selected country. In collective bargaining negotiations, there are many different ways that the management team can approach working with the elected representatives of their employees (the union). In some cases, management views the union as partners in the business – there to help troubleshoot problems, improve employee morale, and generally help the business grow. In other cases, management views the union as a means to an end – necessary, but not preferred. In still other cases, management views the union as the enemy – something that should be eliminated if possible, but at least reduced in power so as to be inconsequential. Often, these attitudes are not permanent, and may change over time. However, the personalities of the individuals that make up the leadership for both sides will often play a large role in the attitude of management towards the union, for good or ill.
Below is an outline of 5 different philosophies that management may take towards the elected representatives of their employees. Consider each of these philosophies, and as we discuss each of the major sports, consider how the philosophy changes through time.

Purpose
This purpose of this assignment is to have you think about your specific Sociology Skills and how they can be used to improve your applications for employment/graduate school. Having the ability to speak strongly of your skillsets will make you a more competitive applicant. Instructions
There are many examples out there for writing a Career Statement (you can google this). However, for this assignment I would like you to explain your work and life experiences, as well a few of your passions, as they relate to the workforce you plan to enter, your work ethic, your long-term goals in the specific career field, and why you are someone they should call for an interview.
A few things to keep in mind: Keep it short, no more than 2 pages. This is a firm requirement. Statements longer than two pages will not be read by others. Be honest, but not too honest. It’s okay to reveal that you have “experienced some hardships” in life, but you might not want to reveal items that might be too personally controversial (i.e. addictions, arrests, other illegal activities, etc.). I’ve had former students reveal challenges and show how they overcame those challenges. This makes you human! If you have questions about what to say or not to say, feel free to email me and ask. You want them to remember you. They need a reason to set your statement in the “Contender” pile. This can be from the style of your writing (creative, humor, descriptive) or from the content – but find at least one way to have something that makes a reader say “hmmm, this is interesting.” It might not guarantee you the job, but remember – you are trying to get a face-to-face interview first! ALWAYS use words that are in the job advertisement. Use the same words that the employer is using to advertise. Employers will search your documents to see how many “matches” it has to the job advertisement. For this assignment, try to use words you have seen in the job ads that we have shown you in class. You should have one paragraph devoted to your Sociology Skills. This should be based on each of your own unique education and training, but generally should be strengths that you bring to the job that other applications might not be describing. Investigate the different ways Fashion brands use storytelling in their advertising campaigns, and how these shape consumer views and values within the fashion industry.
Methodology
Create an analysis on a variety of fashion brand’s advertising campaigns to compare their use of storytelling. For this analysis I will gather social media content, print ads, and sponsored articles on fashion magazines. Brands will go from fast fashion to luxury, in order to have a broader view of the different approaches they utilize. The focus of the analysis is on storytelling so my attention will go towards plot development, character portrayal, and thematic content. I would also like to perform an interview where I show people different ads and they try to identify what’s the “story” behind the images.
Comment
I expect to find the foundations on storytelling techniques brands use in their ads to compel consumers into buying their products, what characters they choose and why, how choice of colors, music, and setting affect these stories, and if these narratives do carry on with consumers.
Feedback: Your proposal has a good foundation, but it would benefit from some refinement. Here are some suggestions for improvement:
Strengthen the Thesis Statement: Clearly state what you expect to find about how storytelling in fashion advertising shapes consumer views and values.
Expand the Methodology: Provide more details on data collection (number of brands, interview format).

To complete this essay, you will need to track down several external sources. Wikipedia, magazine articles, and web pages are okay, but you must supplement those with at least two academic articles. Don’t forget to cite your sources. You can use whatever citation style you like (the Study Guide for this course is in APA), but whichever style you use make sure it is consistent throughout your assignments. If in doubt, check with you tutor on your topic of choice and confirm with him or her the resources that you are planning to use.

Choose a media text (e.g., TV show, Instagram reel, commercial, influencer post, YouTube video) and evaluate it using the five key questions of media literacy. First, describe the media text that you selected and, if possible, provide a link to it. You can also provide a screenshot or other attachment of your media text. Then, answer each question with at least three sentences of analysis. In your responses, note the similarities and differences between what you found with your selected media text and what your classmates found. If you’re able to access the media text they selected, look for additional important information that they might have missed. Add whatever thoughts you have, and feel free to ask your classmate questions about their conclusions.
