Content: The goal of this assignment is to critically and analytically examine your own social and familial genealogy vis-à-vis one of your strongly held values/beliefs. Students should first identify a strongly held value/belief and then explore how this strongly held value/belief came to be within their familial and cultural context. In their analysis students should reflect on the following questions:
· What, specifically, is the value/belief that you hold? Make sure to explain what this value means to you. What is one recent example from your everyday life that illustrates this belief or value?
· What were some of the messages you received as a younger person about this value?
· Who else is your family shares this value/belief? Who does not share this belief?
· How was this value/belief transmitted to members of your family intergenerationally?
· How has this strongly held value/belief been shaped by other key mentors/role models in your life? How has this belief/value changed over time?
· How is this value congruent and/or incongruent with social work values and ethics? What challenges will you face as a social worker with this particular value/belief?
In what ways does your story intersect with systemic privileges and/or marginalized experiences? Connect your story with the larger story of our society.

Paper Submission Details: The paper should be a maximum of 5 pages in length not including the reference page. More important than length is adequate coverage of the main concepts discussed here. Please include a title page in APA format. You do NOT need to submit an abstract for this paper. It is to be written in APA formatting with a 12 point Times New Roman font. It must be double-spaced, with one-inch margins. Pages should be numbered on the top right and the reference and citation style should follow that of the American Psychological Association. Citations should include all materials referenced and all materials referenced must be cited! The use of direct quotes is not encouraged; in general, you should use indirect quotes (paraphrase). All written materials should be professional. In other words, written materials should be clear and easy to read with attention paid to grammar, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary. Subheadings are encouraged as a way to organize your paper. You will lose points for failure to follow these instructions. This paper requires at least 2 references from in-class resources. This week’s case example will be the case in Chapter 7 “Satanic Panic” of the Perry and Szalavitz text. Macro Dimension: The macro dimension focuses on large systems – (e.g., state systems, national systems, laws, regulations, insurance industry, research, policy, advocacy, ACE study, system change, mental health systems, etc.). Macro is not clinical or directly individual.
After reading the case example,

Various types of organizations sometimes contact relational/systemic practitioners to help facilitate a change within an organization. For this assignment, you will develop the outline of a toolkit for facilitating systemic change in an organization. In this course, you just need bullet points or an outline of what you anticipate including in your toolkit. Then, you will take this outline and continue refining the toolkit in the next two portfolio courses and apply it to case studies.
The contents of the toolkit should address the following seven elements:
1. Establishing a contract for the service you will provide.
2. Identifying and joining with key gatekeepers and stakeholders.
3. Assessment tools, processes, and procedures.
4. Specific strategies for assessing organizational culture, including the status of efforts towards social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
5. Obtaining buy-in for the implementation plan from gatekeepers, stakeholders, and the rank-and-file members of the organization.

For this assignment, students are expected to conduct a “mini” policy analysis of Head Start policy. The goal of this assignment is help students learn how to apply a policy analysis framework to Head Start policy. To conduct the analysis, students will need to find 3 articles that concern and describe the Head Start legislation.
To find the articles, please use the social work policy research guide Links to an external site. (social policy analysis tab). One of the articles should come from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) (the link is also available on the libguide page). The CRS report will provide students with an overview of the policy/program and help them discuss the benefit-allocation framework.
The second article should come from a policy/research center or a think tank. The link to these types of organizations (for example, the Urban Institute, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities) can also be found on the libguide page (right hand side). Students note that some of these organizations have a particular political orientation (progressive, conservative, libertarian) so they should think about this while the reports of their choice.
Finally, the third article can also come from one of these organizations (although it should be a different organization than the first article) OR a scholarly article through the articles database in the library (students can use the social work policy research guide by clicking journal articles). The articles students choose should be relatively recent and they should choose sources that help to answer the questions below.
