Worksheet Introduction
The Capstone project represents the culmination of your knowledge, skills and values developed throughout and across the Master in Social Work program. You will demonstrate your understanding of a social or psychosocial issue, the community context in which it occurs, the current theoretical orientation and knowledge base, as described in the extant literature. You will identify a specific problem to be addressed in your project, using a micro, mezzo or macro client system. Next, you will develop a plan for intervention. In SW676, you will implement your plan and evaluate the outcomes.
Part 1 of the Capstone project describes the context for change and introduces the selection of client system and problem. This worksheet will provide an overview of the potential client system or community-based population and related problems for intervention to be addressed in your Capstone project. These potential topics can be at the individual, family, group, community, organizational, or societal levels depending on your specialized practice concentration (direct clinical or direct community) or you community-based problem of interest.
Please note that the goal of the overall Capstone project is for implementation of the intervention. Discussion with your professor and your field supervisor will help ensure that the intervention plan is appropriate for the client and setting. If you are not in a placement, you should consider the population that is most affected by the problem you have identified.
Context for Change
Agency / Community Context
Briefly describe the agency or community in which the intervention will take place. What are the features of the agency/community, its background, and purpose/mission?
Policy
List and briefly describe (2-3 sentences of key points) two policies at the state or federal level that impact the work of the agency or the social problem/issue in your community.
Client System
Who/what is the client/client system/population? (up to 1 paragraph synopsis) If you are completing a community project, describe the specific population your project will target. Give details here about region, demographics, etc.
Problem Identification
This section provides an explanation of the problem that your Capstone project intervention will address. If you are placed in an agency setting, you should identify a problem experienced by an individual client, a group of clients, the staff of the agency or the agency as a whole. This problem should be something that you can readily address within your role as an intern. You can choose to work directly with a client problem (e.g., adolescent depressive symptoms), a small group (e.g., grief and loss group at the agency), a staff concern (e.g., lack of training or support in a specific area), an agency issue (e.g., need for diversity and inclusion training).
Brief Problem Statement
Describe the problem to be addressed. Be as detailed as possible. Make sure you are describing a problem you can readily address.
Next, briefly answer the following questions:
• What efforts – if any – have previously been made to resolve the problem? What happened?
• Are there different perspectives on the problem to be considered?
Level of Intervention
Your Capstone project will be an intervention directed toward the problem you have identified.
Describe the level of intervention: individual, family, group community, organization, society. This is where you will identify the level at which you will target your Capstone project intervention.
• Example: Micro level intervention – clinical treatment of a presenting problem with a specific client (e.g. treating depression with a 41-year old male)
• Example: Mezzo level intervention – program/agency-level intervention to address agency problem (e.g. provide a suicide screening training for high school teachers)
• Example: Macro level intervention – analyze a policy and engage in advocacy to address a community concern (e.g. panhandling laws and procedures in your community)
(up to 1 paragraph about the level and why this level was chosen)
Problem
•In the Bronx New york language barrier, parent need help with understanding IEP.
•parents in the bronx needing assistance in understanding their child IEP
•kids missing out on services

Using the resources provided in the Week 7 studies, design a brief interview protocol to determine theoretical leadership orientation. Identify a leader you admire and explain why this is the case. Arrange to interview this person in person, online, or by phone. During the interview, you will need to gather the information you will need to explain the leader’s theoretical leadership model, evaluate how the leadership model affects their practice with clients, and evaluate how the leadership model impacts their role as an organizational leader.
The bullet points below correspond to the grading criteria for this assignment:
Explain why a given leader is effective.
Explain a leader’s theoretical orientation and leadership style.
Explain the relationship between the leader’s theoretical orientation and style, speculating as to what can emerge in practice.
Evaluate how a given leader’s leadership approach impacts practice with clients.
Evaluate how a given leader’s leadership approach impacts their role as an organizational leader.
Write content clearly and logically, with correct use of grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.
Correctly format paper, citations, and references using APA style
Page Length: 3–5 double-spaced, typed pages. Include a title page and an abstract. Note that the title and reference pages are not counted in the page requirements.

Abstract
Short summary of the entire research proposal, usually about a paragraph (6-7 sentences, 150-250 words). This section should include the general topic of your proposal, research question & hypothesis, what’s already known about the issue through previous research, and the goals of your current proposal, including a concise description of research methods (survey, secondary analysis of data set, etc.). This does not count toward your 5-7 page limit.
Introduction (per APA format, do not include a heading that says “Introduction”)
This section identifies the research question you are interested in exploring. In other words, what is the problem you propose to examine? The goal of this section is to provide a brief description of a social problem, a compelling reason why social workers should try to address the social problem or issue, and a brief description of what must be learned next to address the social problem.
Briefly describe your chosen social issue or problem. This section may include information from other sources (scientific journal, credible webpage) that give statistics that help the reader understand the importance and magnitude of the problem.
Include why this social problem or issue is important; why should we care about it?
First Heading: Literature Review
Briefly describe what is already known about this social issue or problem. This section may highlight, for example, what we know about the causes or the consequences of the social problem/issue.
Provide data on the prevalence, demographics, causes, effects, symptoms, etc.
Use at least 4 peer-reviewed journal citations.
You already have a draft of the literature review from an earlier section of your proposal Be sure to incorporate feedback from earlier drafts. This is a literature review; the different articles you examined need to be integrated. It should not read as a list of separate article analyses.
Subheading: Research Question Link the information you have already provided in your literature review about what is known on this social issue/problem to a gap in the knowledge base. This gap should then link closely to the research question that you will be proposing.
Your proposed research question will generate knowledge that will hopefully fill that gap. This paragraph should provide clear logic that shows how your research question builds off and extends the existing knowledge base
At the end of this section, state your proposed research question(s). These research questions should be revised from your original research questions to reflect an answerable, feasible question. If you are doing an experimental design (pre-post test) or a correlational study (seeing if one variable is correlated with another variable), include your hypothesis. If you are doing a descriptive or exploratory design, do not include a hypothesis.
Second Heading: Methods
This section needs to include your research design, the study participants & sampling strategy, measurements/instruments (scales, surveys, secondary data analysis, etc.) and (brief) data analysis. Clearly operationalize your independent and dependent variables in this sections.
Subheading: Sample, Sampling Strategy & Recruitment Describe the sampling strategy that you will use. Justify why your sampling strategy is feasible and will help you answer your research question.
Describe your population and ideal sample.
State how many people you hope to enroll in your study, and how you will recruit them.
Subheading: Study Design & Methodology Describe the design of your study and the methods you will use. Are you using quantitative, qualitative or mixed-methods? If you are using qualitative, are you planning on conducting interviews, focus groups or something else? If using quantitative, are you doing cross-sectional or longitudinal? If using an experimental or quasi-experimental design, specify which design type you are using (see chapter 12 in your text). If you are planning on using a survey, briefly describe your measures (e.g. Beck Depression Inventory, GAD-7 Anxiety Questionnaire, CAPS-5 PTSD Scale, etc.). If using quantitative methods, be sure to include how you are operationalizing your variables (e.g. “depression will be measured by scores on the Beck Depression Inventory”).
Subheading: Analysis Briefly describe how you think you will collect and analyze your data. If quantitative, describe what kind of descriptive statistics you might use to describe your sample (age, gender, race, depression scores, etc. with means, medians, etc.).
Subheading: Strengths & Limitations Identify at least one strength and one limitation of your study, with a particular focus on reliability and validity (see chapter 8 in your text). You may also assess any strength and limitations of your sampling strategy.
Subheading: Ethics Considerations Describe at least 3 ethical considerations that you have in conducting your study. How does the NASW code of ethics inform your research plan?
REFERENCES
Include APA formatted references. This does not count toward your 5-7 page limit.

Program evaluation is an essential, if not the largest, part of agency work. Agencies have many components, or programs and services, that they provide for their clients. For this assignment, you will design a program evaluation.
For this assignment, you have the flexibility to choose an agency or program from your current or past field placement, a job you have held, or any other organization that aligns with the requirements of the assignment. Whether you draw from your hands-on experience in a placement, reflect on a previous position, or explore a different organization, the key is to select a context that allows you to effectively address the assignment’s components.
Consider the agency or program’s relevance to the assignment’s steps, ensuring it provides a suitable backdrop for discussing program details, implementation methods, the target population, and evaluation design. This diversity of options allows you to showcase your understanding and application of course concepts in a real-world context that you find personally meaningful or professionally relevant. Feel free to choose the setting that best aligns with your experiences and interests.
Instructions
Step 1: Program, Theory/Rationale, Goals, and Major Objectives of the Program
Describe the agency or unit in which the program is housed. If the agency provides the EBP identified you can describe how that is described on the website. Or you use this organization as one that could implement a program that uses that EBP.
Introduce the agency and or program (briefly, you will be addressed further in this assignment): What is the major purpose of the program? What are the objectives of the program?; What is the empirical evidence for this program? To address this part of the assignment, incorporate references to at least 6-8 reports, scholarly articles, or other forms of secondary data in a meaningful way.
Step 2: Methods of Program Implementation
Describe the setting for the program.
What specific services does the program offer?
Describe how the program services/activities are related to the program objectives.
When, where, how often and for how long are services provided?
Who provides the service?
Step 3: Target Population of the Program
Describe the client population targeted and served by the program.
What are the eligibility requirements for the program?
If possible, describe how clients are identified, recruited, and selected for the program. Do these recruitment activities further the possibility that the target population will be reached?
Step 4: Evaluation Design
Complete a logic model. Refer to the textbook chapter in readings for information. You can use this template, any other you find on the internet, or design one yourself.
SW591_Simple_Logic_Model_Format.docx
What are your evaluation questions?
What specific evaluation design would you use to evaluate the program?
Would you use quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods and why? Describe your study’s design.
Discuss the strengths and limitations of the design in terms of its ability to answer your evaluation question(s). If you plan to evaluate the effectiveness of a program, what are the threats to internal validity?
What are the potential ethical implications of your evaluation design?
Step 5: Sample
What type of sample would be utilized and why?
How would clients (or sources of data) be recruited, contacted, and followed for the evaluation?
Do you anticipate any problems gathering the sample or with sample attrition? If so, what are possible solutions to these problems?
Step 6: Data Collection/Administration & Analysis
Describe and critique how you would: “administer” the proposed tool and/or instrument (i.e., self-administered, administered by someone other than the client/group to whom, by whom, how often, how much time in between and why, etc.); collect qualitative data (interviews, focus groups, CBPR, observations, etc.); and/or what forms of primary and secondary data you would use.
If you use quantitative methods, describe what findings you would discuss and one statistical test you would use and which data are necessary to utilize that test.
If you use qualitative data, discuss in some depth how you would analyze it.
Step 7: Conclusions
Discuss the limitations of your proposed study, and any difficulties in implementing this evaluation.
Discuss briefly how you would involve program staff in the evaluation process.
Discuss briefly potential ethical implications of your proposed evaluation.
Formatting: Your evaluations should be 2-3double-spaced pages in length, not including the title page, abstract, and reference page. Ensure that your proposal follows APA formatting guidelines and is free from grammatical errors. Ensure that your evaluations flows logically and that each section builds upon the previous ones. Use headings and subheadings to organize your content effectively. Lastly, carefully proofread your proposal to eliminate any grammatical errors or formatting issues.
