Extra-Credit Overview
In this module, I have compiled the many zoom conversations that I have had with local religious leaders over the past several years. Before the pandemic, I always took my students on field-trips to local houses of worship. I love doing these field-trips because I remember how strong of an impact it made on me to be a guest in someone else’s sacred space.
But when the pandemic hit, this was not possible. I wanted to give my students some sort of opportunity to interact with the religions we were studying on a more personal level, so I started asking religious leaders if they would give us a “virtual field-trip” or just a virtual conversation with them about their tradition. The result is the long list of videos in this module!
These ended up creating wonderful artifacts that I can offer to you and I continue to host virtual conversations with religious leaders when that is just easier for all of us to do. So now you have another way to earn extra-credit and learn more about the religions of the world!
Instructions
If you want to earn extra-credit by watching one or more of the following video conversations, you must:
1) watch one of the videos in this module. Choose whatever looks interesting to you and watch (or listen to) the whole thing (they are each about an hour long)
2) Write a 250 word summary/reaction of the video. Your summary could include information on the following:
What did you learn from the discussion?
What was the most surprising thing you heard during the conversation?
Was there anything you heard that struck you as particularly beautiful or disturbing?
Were there any questions that you still had after the conversation was over?
What did you enjoy about the conversation?
How do you think the talk could have been improved?
3) include one direct quote that the speaker said in the interview
