Follow the news related to American government response to the COVID-19 out break in the U.S. Consider the relationship between the U.S. National Government, State Government and Local Government, as we discussed related to the “Marble Cake” of Federalism. Grading Criteria: Students will follow the 5 Step Essay Format listed below.
Title of Essay: 3 points are possible for the title of the essay. Students should develop a title that is a reflection of their theme and approach to the essay, rather than just state the topic.
11 points will be possible for each of the 5 paragraphs. (Each paragraph should have, at least, two sentences.)
1. Introductory Paragraph: State 3 subtopics of essay in a thesis statement. Underline thesis statement.
2. Discuss first subtopic listed in thesis. (National Government)
3. Discuss second subtopic listed in thesis (State Government)
4. Discuss third subtopic listed in thesis (Local Government)
5. Conclusion, restating thesis.

In addition to using text readings and class lecture material on the concept of Federalism, it is suggested students review information from media sources such as newspapers articles, television news reports and internet searches for updated information about the Coronavirus.

The term paper for this course has an unusual format called an “I-Search” paper as an alternative to a traditional research paper. Instead of a formal composition presenting the integrated results of your discovery, major portions of the paper will be made up of first-person narratives describing the questions you will be asking, your reactions to what you find, and your choices about how to evaluate and use the material. Since you will be using the subjective “I” in your narrative, it is called and “I-Search” paper. There will be three parts to the project: The Question Segment, The Discovery Segment, and the Reflection Segment.
Your topic will be either a major political ideology relevant to American politics, or a current political party or political issue organization within the American political system. As you go about learning and reporting on your topic, you will write personal reflections about your experience.

Objective: The objective of this assignment is to explore the role of mass media in politics and its impact on shaping public opinion. Scholars are to locate a current event article published within the past two years that supports their position on the influence of mass media in political discourse. Please provide a properly formatted APA citation for the chosen article.
Instructions
Research- Conduct research (annotated bibliography) on the role of mass media in politics and its influence on public opinion. Explore various perspectives and theories on the topic.
Locate at least 3 articles (current events) published within the past two years that discusses the role of mass media in politics. The articles should provide examples or evidence to support your position on the influence of mass media. Ensure that each article is from a reputable source such as a well-established news outlet or academic publication.
Page break and begin a 2-page report incorporating the following sections using one of the three selected articles:
Introduction- Introduce the topic of mass media’s role in politics and provide a brief overview of its significance.
Thesis Statement- Clearly state your position on the influence of mass media in political discourse.
Summary of the Article- Summarize the main points and arguments presented in the chosen article. Include relevant details and examples that support your position.
Analysis- Analyze how the article demonstrates the impact of mass media on political opinions and behaviors. Discuss the implications of this influence on democratic processes and decision-making.
Conclusion- Summarize your findings and reiterate your position on the role of mass media in politics.

The mass media plays a critical role in shaping public opinion and influencing political discourse. Choose one of the three articles from the recently uploaded Assignment and discuss its main points. Discuss how media biases can influence various perceptions while analyzing potential consequences of these biases. If your article is social media-based, examine various platforms and their role in public opinions, or if it is media coverage-based, examine how media coverage might have an impact on elected officials or candidates for public office. Compare and contrast as fully and critically as you can Publius’ understanding of the relation between liberty, popular government and the proposed Constitution of the United States of America with that of Brutus and one or two other Anti-Federalists of your choosing.
