For five republican candidates 2024, describe what is the person’s party identification, what are at least three key issues they are running on, and what are their positions on each of those issues? Finally, how would you rank these candidates – first, in order of how well qualified they are for the position and, second, providing a separate rank of how likely you think they might be to win. Do your rankings match closely or present yet another paradox to your thinking (how and why)?

1. Which of former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara’s 11 lessons (The Fog of
War, film) are most directly tied to the President’s constitutional powers, and why?
Choose one, with a second possibility.
2. Using Stephen Skowronek’s theory of the presidency and Elaine Karmack (“The
Fragile Legacy of Barack Obama”), Sidney Milkis and Michael Nelson’s coverage of
Barack Obama’s presidency (in their American Presidency) text, explain why Barack
Obama should or should not be considered a reconstructive president.
3. How does the Iran-Contra scandal speak to the debate over presidential power found
in the Pacificus and Helvidius debates between Alexander Hamilton and James
Madison?
4. Presidential historians typically rank Lincoln, Washington, and FDR as the “best”
presidents. Make your case for who should be ranked 4,5, and 6, and explain why.
5. Respond in the form of an op-ed (800-1000 words) to Harvey Mansfield’s argument
found in Taming the Prince. Do you agree or disagree with Mansfield’s theory of the
presidency – why or why not?

In order to prepare for the Mock Parliament, you will need to do some background

In order to prepare for the Mock Parliament, you will need to do some background research on your assigned party. Please provide a 4-PAGE (1000-1200 WORDS) written response (12pt serif font, double-spaced) to the following prompt. Your paper should include at least four (4) bibliographical references, using APSA style E. Be sure to cite all of your references, including your textbook, in a bibliography and use parenthetical citations where relevant. You are allowed to use quotes on a limited basis and these won’t count toward your page total, but you should paraphrase where possible. Note that each paper will be submitted to the Turnltin database.
DUE DATE: Your completed paper should be submitted as a PDF via Canvas by 11:59PM on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER
28th. You will find the grading rubric for this paper attached to the Canvas Assignment page. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the expectations for the paper or about the submission requirements.
PROMPT: For the political party that you will represent during the Mock Parliament project-either Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrats, or the SP-identify and explain its ideological origins, and trace its major ideological shifts and influences across time. What influential ideas have impacted the principles and positions of your party at different times, including its current positions on salient policies, and why? What important party leaders have been associated with ideological shifts in the party’s policy positions? Give examples from outside sources to illustrate your arguments. Note that the timeline of your historical analysis will vary depending on which party you are covering.

Integrating information from the three case studies (Small Modular Reactors, Canadian Post-War Economic Stabilization Policy, and Regulating online “Broadcasting” in Canada) applies the Advocacy Coalition Framework (the document takes stock of ACF explains the framework)
Linkages between the three policy areas above and the implications of these cases for understanding policy development more generally in this paper. Not all the course readings will apply to the framework you choose, but when a reading provides insights, you should stress this in the paper. Although you should use the course readings as the primary sources, the research paper must be more than a simple summary of textual material. You may, therefore, supplement the course materials with other secondary and primary source materials, including newspapers, government documents, policy papers, archival material, interviews, and anything else that falls into this category. You are further cautioned that web surfing is not academic research, in general. While retrieving scholarly articles via online databases is acceptable, using websites in public (unless websites of governments think tanks, or other reputable organizations) is strongly discouraged. Should papers be submitted with more than casual use of questionable websites instead of academic research, they will be returned with a failing grade regarding referencing APA style. Documents lacking the appropriate citation of sources will be returned to you unmarked and may be assigned a failing grade. When examining the different policy areas, you are encouraged to think about the paper.
Mary, I am attaching all the documents you must use for this paper and feel free to find other academic citations online. You don’t have to use every document I sent you, but you have to use at least one or two documents for each case study.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Guidelines for Research Essay Proposal and Research Essay 1. Essay topics must b

Guidelines for Research Essay Proposal and Research Essay
1. Essay topics must be cleared with me , preferably through a
meeting with me.
2. The essay should focus on a particular issue relating to a particular
country’s relation to the dominant structures of the world economy
(dominant countries or international institutions) in a given period. Good
essays cannot be written about vast topics like ‘globalization’ or even ‘China and
Globalization’ or even the World Bank and or the IMF. They would require
multi-volume works. Here is an example of a specific topic: Was the lifting of
capital controls the cause of the 1997-98 financial crisis in South Korea? Specific
country, time and event and highly specific questions about it. An essay on South
Korea’s 1997-98 financial crisis would also be too general. it has to be further
specified, in this case, to the matter of capital controls.
3. It is imperative for good essays that your topic take the form of a question and
that this question must arise from debates that are already taking place
among the scholars who are writing in that field or questions that are already
being treated by them. This means that arriving at an essay topic is not a
question of just thinking it up, but of reading and thinking about
what you have read. You must discover the question through your reading
and understanding of a given literature, not invent it. In other words, a viable
essay question must be one, or a modification of one, that is already being
addressed in the literature. For any viable topic, there is a literature typically
organised around a series of debates/questions which have exercised scholars
working on the subject. Once you encounter these, your task is easy: find the
debate that most interests you, assess the various positions taken on it and take
your own. Voilà! You have a question, an argument and, more or less, an essay!
4. You can also look at it another way: The questions in the literature are ones that
seasoned writers in the field consider the interesting and important ones.
Without reading as much as they have done, you are unlikely to come up with one
that is more interesting or important. And given that this is an essay and not a
thesis, originality is not a criterion. What you have to demonstrate is your ability
to understand the issues, facts, evidence, arguments and underlying politics and
make a coherent argument about them.
5. The overriding purpose of the Research Essay is to demonstrate your capacity to
understand a debate on an important, and very specific question, digest a good
amount of writing on it, take a reasoned position in it by making a coherent and
specific argument.
6. Good essay proposals and good essays can only be written if you have completed
a very substantial portion of your research for the essay including locating your
sources, reading them and arriving at an idea of what you will be arguing
before writing the proposal.
7. This implies that if there is not a literature and a set of debates, you do not have a
viable topic.
8. How to find the right topic for you:
a. First identify, from the course outline, the general area in which you are
interested.
POLS 3270
Theories of the Capitalist World Order
Page 15

b. Do the readings on the subject. Please do not leave out the
footnotes/references: they are not there for decoration. They can lead you
to literature on related questions. Following up references on topics that
interest you remains the most efficient way of finding material predating
the article or book you are reading.
c. Identify the themes which you find most interesting. Following the
references will also tell you if the theme has been widely and interestingly
written about.
d. Now begins the task of finding further sources: if following the footnotes
and references has not already lead you to interesting material, search in
the electronic databases, first for the latest articles by specific subject or
keyword. Articles are best because they tend to be more up-to-date than
books and lead you to the most recent and relevant material faster.
e. Keep track of the authors who occur most often in footnotes: they have
usually written other books and articles on related subjects which you
might find interesting. Find them!
f. Document delivery. This excellent resource means that you are never
far from all the books and articles you may need, even if our library does
not have them. Please start using it now. All it requires is that you start
your research early, at least 4 weeks early.
g. Articles will usually lead you to the more important of the books but you
might still want to do a search on BISON for book through keyword
and/or subject searches.
9. I shall be available for consultation on any or all of these stages of your research
and conceptualisation.
10. This outline should NOT be in point form. You should use full sentences and
paragraphs and reference the key claims. .
11. The Essay Proposal shall be no longer than 500 words + bibliography. The
bibliography should be as long as you need. The proposal should contain the
h. outline of the question you have posed,
i. why you think it is important or interesting,
j. how you propose to answer it and
k. what you hope to argue in your answer, i.e. your argument.
12. The essays must be typed and double-spaced and between 2,000 words or 8
double-spaced, typed pages minimum to 2,500 words or 10 double-spaced typed
pages maximum. This page length is indicative. If you are a little higher or lower,
it’s no matter. Best not to try to simply fill pages. It is harder to write a shorter
essay than a longer one. Pithy essays embodying a lot of substance and research
will be best rewarded

Chapter 8 Exercise: To better understand how organizational behavior impacts the field of public administration, you are to review the Chapter 8: CASE STUDY Organizations and “Sustainable Behavior” and answer the following questions which will be your initial post for Week 5. You post must be at least 300 words in length.
Why did you choose the design alternative you preferred? In your thinking about organizations—what makes your organizational model “better,” that is, more effective?
How will your new “element” interact with the rest of the organization? Think of this in terms of hierarchy at three levels:
■ with the chief executive and her or his staff
■ with the leadership team (other unit heads)
■ with the employees working in field units or functions
How do you think your new element will change your organization’s behaviors (and with it values) and sensitivity about sustainability and its importance? Do you think changed behaviors at work will translate into behaviors at other places?
How would you measure change—what metrics (engagement, morale, job satisfaction, organizational respect) can be used to assess whether your new structure is producing results in terms of organizational behaviors and leadership in sustainability? For comparison, here are the EPA’s carbon metrics for the US overall in Figure 8.5.
