For this case study, use the resources provided in the google folder to complete an analysis of Norton Outdoor Adventures. Things to consider:
Given the demographics of Ferrum College and the vision and mission of the program, what types of experiences should we be providing?
You will need to do some benchmarking with other college adventure programs. Research two other colleges that offer similar types of programs. How are they similar to NOA? How are they different? What can we learn from them to improve our program?
The end report needs to accurately reflect the current state of the program as well as articulate a future desired state. What are things that need to be improved or changed? What resources are needed to bridge the gap between the current state and the desired state?
What about staff? What types of trainings or certifications should be required and possibly provided by NOA? What about staff manuals and program protocols? Do these exist and need to be refined or do they need to be developed?
What about marketing and promotions? How does NOA currently promote its programs? How do we reach potential participants in an ever-evolving social media world? What needs to be done to better promote the program?
Any other areas that you think need to be addressed.
Submit your report to the drop box entitled NOA Case Study Drop Box.
Components of the report include:
Executive Summary: This is a short summary of the project and an overview of the recommendations. WRITE THIS LAST BUT DON’T FORGET ABOUT IT!!!
Project Description: Get into the details of what you did and how you did it. Include a description of NOA, the types and number of programs offered, staffing, financial resources, and any other details needed to tell the story. Also include the scope of the project, what documents you reviewed, and a short description of what organizations you used to benchmark.
Analysis & Findings: Provide details and relevance of what you discovered. There should be an analysis of each of the documents you reviewed with a brief discussion of the implications of the findings. This will likely be the longest section of the report. This can be done in a chart form if you like.
Recommendations: What are the key things that need to be addressed to improve the program? This is the most valuable part of the report for the readers (me and Aaron) as it will guide changes to the program moving forward. This can be a bulleted list with short explanations of each recommendation.

The final project for this class involves creating an inquiry into some aspect of sport science, sport performance or sport medicine that you may want to try and find an answer or delve deeper into the research regarding.
For this assignment, you are expected to create a modified investigative prospectus. A true research prospectus may be a 20-25 page in-depth presentation or review on a topic. For this assignment I am asking you to cover the following areas in 2-3 pages.
• Introduce and describe your topic of interest
• State what you already know about it and why this topic is important to you, to the field, in general, or interesting
• State the primary question you hope to have answered surrounding the topic
• Propose what you believe to be the truth regarding the topic (hypothesis)
• Write out a brief literature review (5-7 sources) including information already known or leading to the topic
• Indicate if there are any significant counter-arguments to your working thesis
• Explain why researching this topic further is significant and interesting (how does your thesis pass the “so what?” test?) What might be gained from this research?
Provide a full APA cited bibliography of all research used, at least 5-7 sources.
