Assignment 1: https://youtu.be/afwK2CVpc9E
In this week’s module, we have learned about the appropriate ethical treatment of research study participants, as well as the appropriate consent and ethical committee review (Institutional Review Board) necessary to conduct a research study.
The Tuskegee Syphilis study is historically one of the most unethical studies conducted by the United States Public Health Service. In the short video that you will watch, you will learn more about this study.
Your assignment for this week is to:
Watch the short attached video about the Tuskegee Syphilis Study
Using 1 page or less, comment on the ethical issues with this study, using terminology from Chapters 17 and 18, such as coercion, and nonmaleficence.
Talk about the consent process here, what is missing?
Please use at least 1 evidence-based citation.
Assignment 2: Ensuring that participation in a research study is voluntary and that the study runs with ethical practices is of the utmost importance. Why is it important that research participants are consented to participate, and what is understood consent? Give an example of what could be considered coercion in a research study.
Assignment 3: What is the difference between primary, secondary and tertiary analysis? In oral health provide examples of where primary, secondary, and tertiary analysis could be used.
(assignemtns 2 and 3 are for a discussion board can be short and concise)

Assignment 1:
Select a set of one exposure (E), one disease or outcome (D), and one population (P) for an oral health issue. You are an oral health researcher that wants to conduct a research study on the issue you have selected.
Identify an overall study goal (examples, reduce rates of decay in children, or improve the oral health knowledge of an elderly population) that aligns with those EDPs, then identify three specific aims that align with that overall study goal. Confirm that each aim is SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely).
Assignment should utilize a minimum of 1 evidence-based citation (not wikipedia, WebMD).
Assignment 2:
What is the purpose of an abstract for a research paper and how does that differ from a full-text article? Provide advice for someone who is trying to conduct a literature review (review of relevant articles to provide background information for a research paper) and give them guidance on where they can locate evidence-based publications for their research paper.
This one is for a discussion post, doesn’t have to be long. Short and concise.
Don’t forget references for both
Assignment 1: Think about the ways that research in the health sciences has bene
Assignment 1:
Think about the ways that research in the health sciences has benefitted your own health (or someone else’s) and the ways that future health research could help other individuals and communities become healthier.
Write reflectively about your experiences and hopes related to the research process and research outcomes.
Your submission should include 1 evidence-based citation (not WebMD or wikipedia).
Assignment 2:
In healthcare, there are three levels of prevention used to address disease at different states of progression. This preventative concept is also used in dental hygiene and dentistry. The three stages of prevention are:
Primary prevention- protective actions for people before the disease occurs- these are broad solutions, such as vaccination of all children under age 1 against polio and pertussis.
Secondary Prevention- think screening for a disease, with the goal of detecting a disease early. In secondary the disease has occurred, but it is in an early stage, so the goal is to prevent it from advancing.
Tertiary Prevention- the disease has occurred, so now we want to reduce pain, perform surgery, and rehabilitate patients to reduce impairment.
Discussion:
Please provide an oral health example for each level of prevention. In your opinion, in which level/levels of does the dental hygienist focus?
This assignment is for a discussion post. Shouldn’t be long at all. Short and concise.
Don’t forget references for both assignments.

Assignment 1: Through your own choosing of any journal article that contains a Pearson product moment correlation or multiple regression, please specific the data were analyzed using a Pearson product moment correlation or multiple regression. Identify and discuss the level of the variables entered into the analysis. Were significant levels of association reported? Discuss the strength of the reported associations in the context of clinical application. Consider other factors that might account for variance not accounted for by the variables measured in the study.
Please be sure to include full reference for the journal you chose (use APA format).
Assignment 2: Using Internet searches, identify potential research funding opportunities in your discipline from government and foundation sources of any research subject of interest, For example, you may be interested in investigating ” How many primary school in NJ offered free preventive educational program” through their school curriculum” and to implement your research study, you may need to write a proposal for funding support, please write a four pages of a research paper, through answering the following
1. A potential organizations/ industry sources for funding your research.
2. Discuss the pros and cons of each support mechanism relative to your specific clinical discipline.
3. Present your findings and address each of the specific issues identified.
4. Provide a reference list with complete citations for the funding sources you identify.

3. What is the Organizational Strengths and Weaknesses? And possible solutions/recommendations?
Case Study
She Said, He Said, She Said: Three Stories, Multiple Sides – Case Guide
Dale Buchbinder and Sharon Buchbinder
Background Statement
She Said: Take One: A poorly performing female employee accuses a male physician of sexual harassment.
He Said: Take Two: A new male RN is the object of sexual harassment from a powerful female surgeon.
She Said: Take Three: A new female employee in the development office of a hospital is sexually assaulted by a major donor, a physician who is on the Board of Trustees.
Major Problem and Secondary Issues
The major issue in these cases is that sexual harassment is a complex and complicated issue in health care. Health care managers must follow the data—not their emotions—to investigate all claims of sexual harassment. Secondary issues are multiple and will be addressed as weaknesses below.
Role
The best role for these cases, i.e., the person or persons who can solve this problem for this facility are human resources and the administrators in the organization. The advantages of these roles are that HR will know the laws regarding sexual harassment and the organizations’ policies and procedures for managing incidents of this nature. The disadvantages are these are the people under whose watch it occurred. There is a potential for the administrator to be defensive and reluctant to acknowledge a need for change—in the situation with Darla—she should be considered suspect and should not be involved in the investigation. Whichever administrator takes this on, they must view it from that perspective and not personalize this situation.
Organizational Strengths and Weaknesses
These are some key areas for the students to recognize; there are more that can be explored in a discussion.
She Said: Take One:
Strengths:
Physician leaders who call for an impartial investigation;
Good record-keeping regarding the poorly performing employees’ previous behaviors.
Weaknesses:
Female managers demonstrated bias by jumping in to defend the female employee and judge the male employee without investigating.
He Said: Take Two:
Strengths:
Large organization with the resources to deal with the issue;
Weaknesses:
Based on the OR nurses’ comments to Rob, the surgeon’s behavior is a long-standing pattern—and based on Olga’s comments to Rob, it appears nothing had been done about her previous sexual harassment.
She Said: Take Three
Strengths:
Cordial relations with donors and development office.
Weaknesses:
Darla’s relations with big donors may be too cordial. Amy was a new, relatively inexperienced employee sent to ask a major donor for a significant donation. Amy suspects she is being used by Darla as a quid pro quo for a donation.
Amy may go to the police to report the assault—and bad press could follow.
Solutions and Recommendation
Here is a list of some potential solutions:
Re-education of all employees at all three hospitals on sexual harassment and the policies for reporting it.
Investigation of all allegations without bias. Following the data and interviewing all potential witnesses to each incident is critical.
Termination of the employee in the She Said: Take One.
Regardless of the number of grants and money she brings in, if Olga is found responsible for sexual harassment, re-education and progressive disciplinary actions should be based on the number and severity of the complaints.
Investigation of Darla’s actions and her alibi for not being able to accompany Amy to Bunyan’s office.
Investigation of Bunyan’s previous behaviors and any allegations of sexual impropriety. The timing of the appointment and the physical appointment of his office imply this was something planned out ahead of time. The “apartment near the hospital” also indicates a premeditated predatory mindset.
The hospital will want to avoid bad PR, but Amy was physically assaulted and has the right to legal counsel regarding Bunyan’s behaviors. The hospital would be wise to offer this to Amy free of charge.
Evaluation
At the end of one (1) month all employees will have received sexual harassment education and
training.
At the end of one (1) month all investigations will have been completed.
Any re-occurrence of sexual harassment claims against Olga will move the disciplinary process along from counseling and written documentation to suspension to termination, depending on the number and severity of complaints.
If Darla is found responsible for setting Amy up for sexual harassment and assault, Darla must be terminated immediately. Darla will be lucky if she doesn’t go to jail. Even if not specifically addressed in an employee manual, offering sexual favors in exchange for donations is an egregious and illegal act. Amy has legal grounds to sue the hospital since Darla was PMC’s employee. Offering Amy support and legal resources upfront might mitigate her desire to bring a lawsuit against her employer.
If Bunyan is found responsible for sexual harassment and assault, the hospital should remove him from the Board of Trustees and the Chief Medical Officer should discipline Bunyan up to and including revoking his admitting privileges and referring him to the state medical board for additional sanctions against his medical license. Legal action may also be taken against Bunyan for his behaviors.
Assignment 2:
Please answer the following questions. Please follow the APA format and include a cover page with at least two references to support your argument.
1.Define complexity science and give an example?

After viewing this attached video, please write a 1 page response paper and let me know in your opinion what are the ethical, legal, and moral implications here? The dentist implicated was sentenced to 12 years in prison for this and related issues including fraud and improper sedation practices. What are your thoughts on this sentencing (too short? too long?)
Please use at least one citation/reference.
Assignment 2:
You work in what you consider a prestigious practice. The office is modern, there is a large staff, and the dentists in the practice appear to be financially sound, but you are concerned about the assignment of duties. Routinely, the dentists assign some of the clinical staff duties for which you do not feel qualified or you have not had previous training or experience.
You have asked the doctors if this is okay for them to do, and they always confirm that they can assign the staff anything to do as long as the assignment is by a licensed dentist.
You are concerned. What can you do? What is the consequence of these assignments by the dentist or for the assistant who may perform the assigned task?
