Grading
You will be graded on the clarity of your thesis; how well you support your argument with references to the readings, the films, and outside academic sources, if any; how effectively you use sources; and the quality of your writing. I will consider spelling, grammar, and style, but the most important thing is your ability to express ideas effectively. “A” work is analytical, identifies patterns, and establishes the social and historical significance of shows. Good criticism addresses cultural representation and social context. “B” work is descriiptive rather than analytical. See the grading rubric on p. 6 for more details.
Short Paper
You will do one short paper during the semester, 2-3 single-spaced pp. (1200-1500 words, not counting bibliography). Include only sources not listed on the syllabus in a bibliography.
