Many organizations today are multinational enterprises that conduct business operations across international borders. This can present cultural challenges when it comes to implementing DEI across international borders. When looking through an international lens, we must take a deeper dive into understanding what exactly all three parts of DEI mean. Equity is a commonly misunderstood part of DEI, and it is equally as important to understand and implement in organization’s DEI initiatives nationally and internationally.
Left image Equality shows 3 people standing on same box height, but one can’t see over fence. Equity shows different box heights allowing all to see.
In your own words, based on what we have learned so far in this course, what is your interpretation of this graphic?
Define equity and give an example of it in the US workplace.
Select a country other than the US and explain how equity is perceived in your selected country.
Include 2-3 rederences, formatted and cited (intext citations) in accordance with APA style.

As organizations continue to operate on a global level, ethics and DEI gets challenged when cultural beliefs clash across international borders. In this assignment we will discuss some of these areas that cultures, ethics, and DEI tend to clash.

Child Labor: In many countries, it is a cultural norm for young children to work to help support their families. The USA is anti-child labor and organizations are discouraged from partnering with foreign companies that use child labor. How Businesses Can Stop Child Labor In Their Supply Chains.

Gender issues: Some nations do not see women as equals to men and women have limited roles in their workforce. This is especially the case in leadership positions. Nearly 2.4 Billion Women Globally Don’t Have Same Economic Rights as Men.
<
<
Bribery: In many nations, paying bribes to get things done, to close big business deals is a norm. The United States has a federal law against US-based organizations paying or accepting bribes to conduct business. Many US-based organizations feel these anti-bribery laws put them at a disadvantage when bidding for projects against foreign competition. U.S. Is One Of The Only Two Countries Actively Enforcing Anti-Bribery Laws.

<
Religion: Some countries may require people to dress in a certain way in accordance with their religion. What if those employees do not practice that religion, should they have to dress that way? Female Pilot Sues Over Muslim Garb

Corporate Social Responsibility Issues: A partner organization overseas may use techniques that are harmful to the local environment and have been operating this way for years. Corporate Social Responsibility In International and Local Companies.

Research one of the issues mentioned above or an issue not mentioned above.

Select a country on Hofstede Insights Country List where this issue exists and compare it with the USA.

Ethical behavior is critical for organizations to be successful. An organization
Ethical behavior is critical for organizations to be successful. An organization having a code of ethics will have something in writing that lets employees, customers, and partners know where the organization stands ethically. A solid code of ethics will allow employees guidance on how to make the best possible decisions. This can lead to ethical behavior that enables a culture of ethics and DEI in an organization.
For this assignment, you will create a code of ethics for your current, previous, or an organization you like or know about. Think about the common areas you have seen unethical actions in the organization. Additionally, be sure to integrate some type of ethical decision-making process for employees to refer to when faced with a tough decision that may become an ethical issue. Do remember that a code of ethics and a code of conduct are two different things. A code of conduct is very specific and lists prohibited or desired behaviors. A code of ethics is less specific and offers guidance for how decisions should be made in accordance with the organization’s mission and core values.
Your code of ethics will contain the mission of the organization, an ethics statement, outline the values the organization represents, help employees make decisions that are within the organization’s values. Your code of ethics should also address how the company will treat employees, the environment, business partners, shareholders, and the community.
Your code of ethics should be 2-3 pages in length (not counting the title page or references). There is no APA format for a code of ethics, however, your title page and reference page (if applicable) will conform to APA guidelines.
10 Examples of a Business Code of Ethics
We are looking at laws and policies that have an impact on DEI in the workplace.
We are looking at laws and policies that have an impact on DEI in the workplace. The United States Supreme Court’s landmark decision to strike down affirmative action in higher education admissions has left higher education institutions scrambling for new ways to promote student diversity. As we have noted in this course, a major source of talent for organizations is colleges and universities. It is known that without the practice of affirmative action, enrollment rates from black and Hispanic students decline (Binkley, 2023). The ripple effects from this ruling will be widespread. “In a response to the ruling, SHRM reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for inclusive workplaces and diverse workforces” (Gonzales, 2023, para. 5). Whether we agree or disagree with the ruling, HR professionals should continue to find ways to ensure they are doing all they can to ensure employees are working in an environment that embraces DEI. Please respond to at least 3 of the questions below:
Explain one argument for and one argument against affirmative action.
How does affirmative action help organizations to achieve DEI goals?
Do you feel this ruling could have any impact on DEI efforts in the workplace?
What are the broader implications of the Supreme Court’s ruling for race relations in the United States and in the workplace?
Do you feel affirmative action is needed in employment?
What are the ethical implications of dismantling a program that gave historically discriminated against people opportunities to succeed?
