Select one of the following topics to write about:
A More Perfect Union? Have we achieved the Constitutionâs goals today? To answer this question, think about the goals expressed in the preamble to the U.S. Constitution:
Form a strong union
Establish equal justice for all
Insure domestic tranquility (that is, peace at home)
Provide for the common defense ( today we might say homeland security)
Promote the general welfare
Secure liberty for ourselves and posterity
With this in mind, and using an AâF (A, B, C, D, & F) grading scale, assign a grade to each area of the preamble. For instance, assign an âAâ if you think the U.S. has lived up to its goal of forming a strong union, and so on and so forth. Your effort here must go beyond mere assertion; that is, simply ascribing a grade to each area. You must qualify the rationale behind your evaluation. You accomplish this task with the use of relevant, scholarly data. You should conclude your paper with one recommendation for improvement in your lowest rated area.
This paper should be approximately five pages in length. A total of four scholarly sources should be used to stake your claims. Your paper should be in APA format and will be graded based on the attached rubric.
What Happened to Our Constitution: Executive Agreements, Executive Orders, and Signing Statements. A functioning legislative branch is paramount to a healthy democracy. To the degree that our Framers embraced this philosophy can be seen in the expansive list of powers granted Congress by the Constitution. However, in recent years, many have pointed to the erosion of the nationâs legislature. In particular, it has been noted that the presidential use of executive agreements, executive orders, and signing statements have harmed Americaâs doctrine of separation of powers by circumventing the legislative process itself. To this end:
Select one of the topics to expound upon, either executive agreements, executive orders, or signing statements.
Identify the constitutional basis for such, if any.
Provide an example of this tool at work in American federal government;
Explain the intersection of such use with the doctrine of separation of powers.
Conclude by affirming the strength or weakness of the nationâs legislative process.
This paper should be approximately five pages in length or 1250 words minimum. A total of four scholarly sources should be used to stake your claims. Your paper should be in APA format and will be graded based on the attached rubric.

Electoral competition is the bedrock of democracy. Yet of Texas’s 38 congressional seats (the members that Texas sends to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC), only 3 seats (maximum) are competitive (in reality, it’s probably more like 1). It is all but impossible for 35 of Texas’s members of Congress to lose their seats owing to a process known as gerrymandering. This process is exacerbated by people self-clustering into politically like-minded communities. Note u must use these 5 sources and site them

Principal-agent relationships, where one political actor delegates certain respo
Principal-agent relationships, where one political actor delegates certain responsibilities to another actor, are pervasive in politics. One exists between the public and members of Congress and another one exists between Congress and executive branch agencies. Describe both relationships by telling us: Who is the principal and who is the agent? What responsibilities does the principal delegate to the agent? What mechanisms exist for the principal to oversee, monitor, andâwhen necessaryâpunish the agent? What opportunities and resources exist for the agent to exploit this relationship and adhere to the principalâs demands less faithfully than the principal desires?
Then, identify a group in the United States that had grievances with its treatment by one or more federal agencies, in the past or at present, and demanded policy change. You can construe groups broadly; a racial or ethnic minority, an economically disadvantaged group, and people disproportionally impacted by a natural disaster, among others, are all acceptable. Articulate this groupâs grievance by specifying the laws, regulations, or their implementation that the group saw as inadequate, unfair, or unjust. How did the group, as a political principal, seek to bring about policy change by influencing Congress, executive agencies, or both? How did Congress and/or executive agencies meet the groupâs demands? What fundamental problems of delegation in principal-agent relationships does this episode reveal?
Write your response in an essay 4 to 5 double-spaced pages long, using a standard font type such as Times, a 12-point font size, and 1-inch margins. Cite sources using a standard citation style (for example, the Chicago style), and use both in-text citations and a list of references appended to the end of the essay. The list of references is not included in the pages allowed. While there is no minimum required number of sources cited, the failure to cite sources for factual and argumentative claims constitutes plagiarism. For more specific criteria, consult the attached rubric.
