My thesis goes as follows: Scream utilizes filmic references as a form of self reflexivity with the intention of igniting self reflection amongst its audience in regards to the expectations we have watching slasher-horror films and what that conveys about our own ideologies in reality.
Professor clarification: When developing an argument about a film, I emphasize “interpretative frameworks of your choice.” The instruction that frameworks “must be derived from course work” means that you draw from the theoretical frameworks we have covered in class regarding the human subject, society, and ideology, and how film forms work to convey these concerns. Through your own contemplation and research beyond the course reading, you should interpret the film in your own idiom.
