You have to build a single story single family home. How would you build an energy efficient home. It’s Kalamazoo Michigan, the average temperature in the winter is 30 degrees, average year round rainfall is 38 inches. Make a list of suggestions to mitigate the snow and rainfall from reaching the interior. Consider building codes and how it impacts decisions.

Lab Report Assignment: Investigating the Effect of Salt on Ice Melting Objective
Lab Report Assignment: Investigating the Effect of Salt on Ice Melting
Objective:
Students will conduct an experiment to observe how the addition of salt affects the rate at which ice melts. They will collect data, create a graph, and write a short lab report based on their findings.
Experiment Overview:
In this experiment, students will measure the time it takes for ice to melt in different salt concentrations.
Materials Needed:
Ice cubes (about 10 cubes)
Table salt (sodium chloride)
Clear plastic or glass containers (3)
Measuring spoons
Stopwatch or timer
Notebook for recording data
Thermometer (optional)
Procedure:
Setup: Prepare three containers and label them as follows:
Container A: No salt (control)
Container B: 1 tablespoon of salt
Container C: 2 tablespoons of salt
Add Ice: Place 3 ice cubes in each container.
Start the Experiment:
Begin the timer as soon as the ice is added to each container.
Observe the melting process, and note the time it takes for each ice cube to completely melt.
Record Data: After all ice has melted, record the time taken for each container.
Repeat: If time allows, repeat the experiment to ensure accuracy and calculate the average time taken for each condition.
Lab Report Structure:
Your lab report should be 1-2 pages (excluding the cover page) and include the following sections:
Title: “The Effect of Salt on the Melting Rate of Ice”
Introduction:
Explain the purpose of the experiment and the science behind why salt affects ice melting.
State your hypothesis regarding how salt will influence the melting rate.
Materials and Methods:
List the materials used.
Describe the experimental procedure clearly.
Results:
Present the collected data in a table (as shown above).
Create a line graph showing the average melting time for each container.
Discussion:
Analyze your results. How did salt affect the melting rate of ice?
Discuss any trends observed in your data.
Identify potential sources of error and suggest improvements for future experiments.
Conclusion:
Summarize your findings and their implications for understanding the effects of salt on ice.
References (if applicable):
Include any sources you used for background information.

( Lab Abstract only) the provided material are so important please read them all before starting on the abstract, moreover, keep in mind that the minimum word limit for the abstract is 250 word and 350 at max:
1st file( Abstract Rubric ) basically the grading rubric.
2nd file( Lab 4 – Abstract( Example)) it’s an example of how the structure of the abstract looks like but the abstract itself not that good.
3rd file ( Lecture 3-260-Technical Writing) explains how the professor expects us to write the abstract ITS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO READ page 1-5 and please follow all instructions in the lecture notes.
4th file ( MEEN 260 Lab 4 Manual) it’s basically the lab manual and all steps are there.
here is a youtube like explain what we did in the lab:
Finally if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me any time, also keep in mind that the professor is so strict when it comes to grading so please be concise since its a technical writing course, thank you

Please pay attention to the following information: On this lab report, you need to first conduct the experiment to be able to complete the report. I will attach three files: one titled “working file” contains all the information about how the experiment should be done. After conducting the experiment, you should then proceed to complete the lab report. Also, answering the questions and requirements on the last tow pages on the working file. The other two files consist of two examples demonstrating what the report should look like.
