POLICY ISSUE AND SOLUTION PAPER: DRAFT ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
This assignment will provide you with the opportunity to apply your knowledge developed through research to key topics that relate to the criminal justice field. This assignment will enable you to apply what you have learned in your course toward possible solutions to a policy issue that exists in the field of criminal justice. Research through this assignment will provide the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of a significant criminal justice policy issue and how it can be solved.
INSTRUCTIONS
To successfully complete this assignment, please select a major criminal justice policy issue (excluding the death penalty, legalization of marijuana, or gun control) found in your research that can be applied to current issues in criminal justice. You may select minor policy issues, major policy issues, minor budget issues, major budget issues, equipment implementation, and any issue dealing with a policy proposal. Major sections of your paper should a Problem, Significance, and Solution section that are outlined with APA formatted section headings. Also, please note that 3 policy solutions should be provided. 3 choices: do nothing, incremental approach, and full implementation and each should have their own section headings. The solution section of the paper must have enough of an explanation of the solution so that an executive would be able to make an informed decision from your explanation. The solution must also have sub-themes with section headings. Some subthemes include impact to department, impact to external stakeholders, and impact to budget. While this is a draft assignment, it is expected to be a fully completed assignment that meets each of these assignment objectives. You will receive detailed feedback on this assignment that should be applied to your Policy Issue and Solution Paper: Final Assignment.

Current Event Reviews – You will have the opportunity to complete four Current Event Reviews
demonstrating your ability to critically analyze current events in policing/law enforcement. The current
event MUST have occurred within the last month of each journal entry’s due date and MUST be
documented in some way that I can review at a later date. Examples of documented events include those
that can be found in/on websites, books, newspapers, magazines, or video clips. Each review should
include five sections (separated by paragraph):
1) Briefly summarize what occurred and include access HERE (e.g., website address).
2) Briefly discuss how the incident is representative of a broader policing/law enforcement issue.
If it is not representative of a broader issue, you should pick a different event which is.
3) Discuss how the details of the event compare to what you have learned about in class. Be sure
to directly and explicitly connect specific details from the current event to specific learning
materials from class (e.g., Chapter 3). The more connections you make, the better your grade.
4) Discuss how & why the police AND the public may have differing perspectives about the event.
Be sure to objectively review BOTH perspectives in detail. If both sides share the same
perspective, then the event IS NOT an issue and you should pick a different event which is.
5) Briefly discuss at least one way in which the issue from your current event could be addressed
via official law/practice/policy.
Each Review should be 2-3 typed pages (double-spaced, normal fonts, sizes, etc.). Reviews must be
submitted via Canvas as MS Word or PDF documents ONLY and are due by the EoD of the assigned due
date (see the Tentative Course Schedule below). You may drop your lowest Review entry grade (i.e.,

Look at some of the landmark DNA cases that lead to the acceptance and reliability of DNA in the criminal justice system. This week we will look at the first criminal case in which DNA testing was used in the US. Read the below summary of the case.

Question 1- If hired as the chief security officer, explain the initial security actions and/or processes you would immediately initiate using “tried and true” security principles to determine, analyze and prioritize the current security threats to XYZ corporation assets so specific strategies can be recommended that more effectively prevent and/or mitigate losses and positively “turn the tide” for company earnings.
Question 2- a different panel asks if you agree that risk management, sometimes referred to as loss prevention management, which includes risk assessment and analysis, is a “cornerstone” concept that underlies private and public security enterprises. The member invites you to provide your own authoritative perspective regarding these terms i.e., their meaning, how they differ, and how they are actually interconnected in a way that provides numerous benefits to the organization and assists chief security officers in their safety and security mission.
Question 3- Realizing security leaders musty remain well-informed regarding trending technology advances and other security dynamics, another panel member asks you to describe the current threat environment and the greatest threat and management concerns confronting chiefs of security within all industry sectors. This member also acknowledges the difficulties in understanding the difference between the terms threat, vulnerability, and risk as they pertain to the security risk management process, given the terms are often heard and used interchangeably in our routine conversation, even with security professionals. The member requests that you briefly address the distinctions between the listed security terms.

The following needs to be addressed/changed from the original paper:
1, You should explain what you mean by “the social media management of police agencies” in your proposal title. Maybe “depiction” is more appropriate here than “management.” Also, your proposal doesn’t seem to feature much about community policing although you mention it in your title. You should clarify this.
2. You should explain what “police legitimacy “ is specifically, as opposed to a general perception that police are behaving well.
3.What is “police brigades’ legal predicate” in your first sentence? What are “police brigades”?
4. As presented, it seems that your hypothesis is that the more negative material people are exposed to about the police, the more positive they will be about police performance. Of course this isn’t right. You should reword your hypothesis for clarity.
5. How would you be able to draw a random sample of people for your study?
6. What questions about perceived police legitimacy developed in prior studies would you include in your questionnaire?
7.In your fourth paragraph you say your data analysis would consider other influences than media exposure to explain attitudes about the police. You don’t say what these other influences are, but it sounds as if they might be additional independent variables. If that is the case, it might be possible to draw your sample in such a way that some of them would be held constant. This would streamline your research and your discussion.
If you could informally answer any of these questions as well as make those edits/corrections to the paper that would be great!
