Critical and interactionist theories of criminology offer a range of possible explanations of criminal behavior. Some of these theories vary only slightly from one another, and some are considered to be quite radical. For this discussion, you will consider what you have learned from the resources in this module and describe which theory you believe offers the best explanation of either property crime or violent crime, identifying its strengths and weaknesses, and describing a way that this theory might help criminal justice professionals reduce crime.

Week 4 Project: Monitoring Your Program or Policy
With your action plan already in place, the next step is to analyze whether your intervention provides solutions to the problems you seek to solve. Continuing with the Fictionland scenario, this week you will prepare a presentation that describes how you will monitor your program or policy and discusses your research design plan.
Prepare a PowerPoint presentation of 7–10 slides, highlighting your process evaluation strategy for monitoring the implementation of your program or policy.
Outline your process evaluation strategy by deciding how you will monitor the following dimensions of your program or policy:
Targets
Program staff or individuals responsible for implementing the program or policy
Demonstrate how the monitoring plan will evaluate the intervention’s impact, performance, and efficiency.
You must come up with at least two questions per dimension that will allow you to measure whether the critical elements of the program or policy have been implemented properly.
Specify the Research Design
Specify the design of your program or policy to analyze whether it provides solutions to the problems presented in the project scenario for the Fictionland Police Department. Be sure to complete all assigned readings for the week, including the pdf documents. Include the answers to the following questions in your report:

Evaluating Monitoring Programs
Discussion Part I
While designing a monitoring plan for your program or policy, if you discovered that different techniques for monitoring the implementation of the program or policy produced conflicting results, how would you reach an effective monitoring plan?
Consider that the observation data monitoring technique suggests that, on average, staff members spend 1 hour per week on teaching life-skills to clients as the program intended, but the service record data monitoring technique suggests that staff spends 15 minutes on average teaching life-skills to clients, against the program’s intentions. What do you think could account for the discrepancy between different monitoring techniques?
Discussion Part II
Among the different observational data collection techniques—narrative, data, and structured rating scheme, which technique do you consider to be the strongest approach? Which technique do you think is the weakest? Explain your rationale.
Is it advisable to combine two or more observational data collection techniques? Are there any advantages to combining techniques? Are there any disadvantages to combining techniques? Discuss.

Identifying the Variables and Issues
For this assignment, provide a description of the problem statement and research question or hypothesis for your project.
On the basis of your project:
Identify the variables that you plan to test.
Specify one specific independent variable and one dependent variable, if your project is a hypothesis-testing project. Identify the hypothesis and variables that the program has been built around if you are evaluating a program or a policy.
For example, if you evaluate your local Big Brothers Big Sisters program, you could say that the program is built upon the hypothesis that positive role model mentoring has a positive impact on children from broken homes. The independent variable will be the presence of a Big Brother or Big Sister mentor, and the dependent variable will be the effect that the program has had on the child.

Hello Everyone, 
I strongly believe the classical school of thoughts has the most influence on criminal justice practices, as it encourages free will and reasonable decision making. It promoted the opportunity that peoples should make rational decisions in regard to getting involved in criminal activities or not because they are able to compare the advantages and disadvantages that will result.
Two areas in which the classical school of thoughts has influence the criminal justice practices through law enforcement is by placing great emphasis of deterrence and the certainty of punishment by police being very tactical, responding swiftly to crime and reinforcing the law to dissuade potential offenders have been developed, also maintaining social order and defending individual rights through the impartial and uniform application of the law. 
The classical school’s emphasis on deterrence has also contributed to a decrease in crime and recidivism rates by means of promoting prompt and decisive penalties which aims to discourage individuals from engaging in criminal behavior. 
 In general, the classical school of thought has shaped the foundational principles of criminal justice in both sentencing practices and court systems. These key principles which include: Rational choice and deterrence, punishment as a social contract, legal equality and just deserts and individual responsibility.
