ABC Theater Company has three performances of a comedy show over Labor Day weekend. The show, “ABCs of Love” is meant for an adult audience because of some swearing and sexual themes. They have asked me to make sure to request no young children attend. They also provided me with a logo and a main color of purple to use in all my deliverables.Flyer – I will create an 11×17 print flyer to post in local stores, community centers, post offices, etc. This will be printed and posted by Aug. 1.
Two Facebook/Instagram posts – the first will be a general announcement and description of the show, and will be posted the same day as the flyers on Aug. 1. The second round of posts will be one week before opening night.
News article – I will write this and send it to two local newspapers two weeks before opening night.
Banner – the ABC Theater Company owns a small billboard and I will create something similar to the flyer to post there by Aug. 5.

Principles of Psychology
Virtual (and augmented) reality have a number of purposes and uses for recreation such as gaming,
education such as workplace training, and even health care such as exposure therapy for certain types
of anxiety disorders or PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). You will learn more about all of this
throughout the course.
For this assignment, consider how virtual (and augmented) reality relate to the basic principles of
psychology. If you have an undergraduate intro to psychology textbook, typically any book can help.
Look through the table of contents at the different content areas indicated (most intro books have
nearly identical sections). Pick three topics, concepts, or theories from anywhere in the introductory
material and talk about the connection between the basic principle and what your understanding of
Virtuality is all about from the readings (and Discussion 1) for the week.

Seeing Communication in Movies Assignment Step 1 The first step in this assignment is selecting a movie/film to analyze based on concepts in Interpersonal Communication. One season of a television show will also work for this assignment but going beyond one season is likely too much. Step 2 Once you have your film selected, you should answer the following questions based on that movie. Be sure to completely answer each part of the question. You should explain this well enough that your professor does not even need to watch the film to understand the concepts you are referencing. CITE IT You will be using some of the information from this project to complete Speech and Outline Start your Paper with a one-paragraph general overview of the film, then respond to the following: Be sure to list the answers below the questions, so do NOT write this in essay format. 1. You have analyzed the characteristics of a competent communicator. Which character in this film do you think is the most competent communicator based on the traits we discussed? Why? 2. As you learned in this course, culture and gender have a big impact on the way we communicate. What are some of the culture and gender differences that effect interpersonal communication in the movie? Provide at least two for culture and two for gender. 3. Perception influences every aspect of communication. Explain how the main character’s perceptions likely affect their relationships. Then explain how your own perception influences the way you view the movie. 4. As we know, language is a big factor in interpersonal communication. Give at least 3 examples of language use in the movie between some of the main characters. 5. While language is important, we also know that nonverbal communication plays a major role in how we communicate (content vs. relational message). There are likely many facial expressions in the movie, among other nonverbal expressions, that say a lot more than words. Give at least 3 examples of nonverbal communication in the movie. 6. How does listening impact the way the characters in the movie relate to one another? Give at least two examples. 7. How do the main characters portray their emotions? Give three examples. 8. As we know, conflict and power are a big part of our interaction with others. Give two examples of how conflict and/or power were displayed in the movie. 9. The communication climate is another important aspect to consider when analyzing a communication situation. Explain one example of a supportive communication climate in the film. Also describe one example of a defensive climate. 10. Your choice – select any other aspect of Communication that has not already been discussed in the questions above and explain how it relates to the movie. For example, you could talk about some of the later chapters in the text. How is social exchange theory evident in the film? In what ways are Knapp’s Relational Stages portrayed? Pick out anything else you would like to (that hasn’t been mentioned already in the first nine questions). Assignment Grounding
All of us consciously and unconsciously act out who we are at any given moment. We perform our identities for others to see, and are usually responded to according to those “performances.” In some ways, we are all “actors” in our lives. We signal who we are through our bodies (the way we walk, stand, sit), our attitudes, our vocabularies, our voices, our clothes, etc. At times we are relatively unconscious of our presentation of self; at other times, we can be excruciatingly conscious. There are times when we’ve been in situations where we are painfully conscious of our portrayal of who we are. Think of those times you’ve applied for a job–or have asked for money from a parent–or what about the first meeting with someone special? At times like these, we are often acutely aware of the role we are playing and the “mask” we are wearing for that role. The identity we are attempting to create unconsciously or consciously can be called our persona. Persona simply refers to the kind of person an individual is perceived as being at a given moment. It is based on all verbal and nonverbal behaviors as they are seen by someone else.
As adolescence teaches many individuals, it is possible to act out a variety of identities: one for the parent, one for the clergy, one for the best friend, one for the boy/girl friend, one for the ex- boy/girl friend… and on it goes at that age. You may remember yourself and the variety of “yous” you acted out in a number of different performances with different “audiences.” When we are acting our behaviors so that others looking and listening to us see us as having a certain sort of persona, we call that embodiment. In other words, to be successful with the presentation of self, we must embody those characteristics associated with the desired outcome.
First significant question of the essay: What persona (identity) do you wish to create as a public speaker?
Second significant question of the essay: What behaviors will you need to perform in order to be recognized as the person you want to be seen as for this class?
How the essay fits into a “speech class:”
This essay is a chance for you to explore how you want to be perceived in this course during this term. It offers you the opportunity to think about and select the kind of person you want to be seen as a public speaker. It asks you to consider some rather serious questions: What kind of public identity do you want to project throughout the semester? What elements of character and personality do you want to be recognized as having? What kind of public person do you want to be known as? In terms of a public speaker, how do you want to be seen? Because you will be making a number of public presentations before the class throughout the term, you have an opportunity to create and perform an identity. We will come to know you through your presentations in here. In other words, you have the chance to present (or perform) yourself as you wish us to see you.

The objectives of this assignment are to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your skill in audience analysis; in the selection, research, and organization of a topic; and in the delivery of a speech to inform. MOVIE ANALYSIS PAPER Purpose: To identify and analyze small group communication concepts and theories. Assignment: Write a 3-5 page paper on the film, Formatting: Papers must be typed, double-spaced, 12-font, 1 inch margins, stapled, APA style, and include a cover page. Paper Formatting Guidelines: Papers should be written in 5 paragraphs: Paragraph 1: The Introduction The first sentence of your paper should be an attention-getter to capture the reader’s attention. You may use a quotation, rhetorical question, or shocking statistic in order to captivate your reader. In the next 2-3 sentences, introduce the name of the movie as well as the names of the characters that you will be analyzing in your paper. Please use the characters’ fictional names as opposed to the actors’ names. The last sentence of the first paragraph is your thesis statement. Your thesis statement may say something like, “In the following paragraphs, I will analyze group roles, leadership, and conflict management displayed in the movie Paragraph 2: Group Roles Identify and analyze a minimum of three specific task, maintenance role, and self-centered roles (example – energizer, supporter, blocker) that the main characters in the film played. First, identify the group role that the character played. Second, define the group role. Third, give a detailed example from the film that illustrates why you feel the character played a particular role. Please use smooth transitions throughout.
