As a capstone project for this course, you will create an approximate 20-minute online communication skills training program that will be presented to the class. Keep in mind that your classmates are your audience and they are the people to whom you should adapt. You are not creating a hypothetical program — you are engaging in communication skills training for your actual classmates.
There are many job-specific skills training that may happen in organizations. For this class, we are going to focus on communication skills training (because, by now, communication should be an areas of specialization for you, and this will make your training more relevant to your classmates who will be enrolling in your training program).
. THE COMMUNICATION SKILL THIS TRAINING PROGRAM IS GOING TO BE BASED ON IS NEGOTATION narrow your topic to a specific form of negotiation in a more specific context. You will not be able to discuss all forms of negotiation in every imaginable setting in this short program. So get more specific.
You could produce a video for your project, but I would suggest that you find ways to build in significant interaction and skills practice so this is not just a 20 minute video that your audience is to passively watch. You may also choose to develop a website, a computer assisted training program, or something else. you should think what mode of instruction is going to work best for you, and what is within your skill set to produce. For example, if you don’t already have the ability to build an interactive website, then you need to decide whether you want to learn that new skill (which I would encourage), or whether it is best for you go with something you already mostly know how to do (which I complete understand). Ultimately, though, this is your choice.
Prior to creating and delivering your training program, you should develop a lesson plan. This will take the form of a 3-to-5-page outline (even longer is not only acceptable but encouraged). Your outline should be detailed, should clearly indicate any discussions, interactions, or skills practice that will be happening, where in the program those activates will be happening, and overall articulate a very clear summary of the content you will be presenting to your audience. You should submit this far enough in advance of constructing your actual training program to allow time to use me as a consultant, get feedback on your plans, and make adjustments if necessary.
If you are working as an individual {Which you are}, I generally expect that your training program will lean toward the 15- to 20-minute timeframe (this is the time it would take for a trainee to complete your training program, start-to-finish). (again, this is referring to the time it would take a trainee to go through you content but also complete any activities or assignments you give your training participants). Follow up with any interactive elements of your training program (for example, if you ask me to set up a discussion board as part of your training program, I will be happy to do so, but it is your responsibility to read and interact with your participants on that discussion board. If your program involves any form of practice by your learners [highly encouraged], you should be prepared to provide coaching on how well your participants are performing that skill). This is what she asked of me so If what she said above you want to do plz lmk and I will proceed with her the way you see fits best}
This is a good overview for how to create a training program lesson plan. You don’t need to purchase any templates, or use this particular format. You can create something that looks more like an outline, but be sure you cover the points covered in this video.
If you want to use a “template” for a lesson plan, there are plenty available for free online, and a diligent Google search will help you find those (like this one, for example: https://trainlikeachampion.blog/create-lesson-plan-for-adults

— it both explains how to develop a template, but also has some formatting examples you can download). Definitely don’t bother purchasing any templates! You can easily do this yourself! How to Create a Lesson Plan

Summary
The “BOPPPS” model of lesson planning breaks down your training session into six parts. This would be initially developed as an outlined (like you learned to do in a public speaking class) lesson plan containing the following main sections for the program:
Bridge In — Create an effective introduction (just like you learned to do in your public speaking class!)
Outcomes — Clarify what will be accomplished by the end of the training session making expectations clear
Pre-Assessment — Discover and/or review the existing knowledge of learners and reinforce prior knowledge (this should typically be done as a “needs assessment” prior to a training program, but can be done again during a training session, conversationally, to clarify learner’s existing skills and knowledge, and clarify for everyone their strengths and areas needing improvement)
Participatory Learning — Explain, give necessary information, but also focus on the learner’s active engagement with the content
Post-Assessment — Understand what was gained from the training session and help establish goals for future learning
Summary — Wrap up the learning experience and create a sense of closure (similar to what you learned to do in your public speaking class)

I’m having you watch the following video for two reasons. First, this gives a good definition and some examples of what a “training module” is. It also demonstrates one popular software system that aids in creating online training program. I don’t want to advertise for “iSpring,” but you have probably taken online training programs that have been developed using this or similar software. For the training program you are developing, you can easily replicate some of the content that would be used in these sorts of modules without actually using this software. If you go in to training and development professionally, expect that you would likely be using this or a similar software suite. Later in this week’s content, I have posted a tutorial for you on how to create a learning module that just uses PowerPoint, no specialized or expensive software required!

Competency
In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:
Generate recommendations for addressing a complex challenge
Scenario
Training opportunities in the workplace (professional development) have become a sound investment for employers. In addition to reducing recruiting and retention costs, they have been demonstrated to boost productivity and job satisfaction. For employees, they also provide the benefit of enhancing skills and offer additional prospects for positioning employees for new opportunities within the organization outside of regular promotions. For the past seven years, your company has sponsored a professional enrichment program (PEP). Each year, a small group or cohort of six to eight employees is chosen to participate in special professional enrichment activities in both group and individual formats. They are paired with mentors from leaders across the company. Employees each submit a letter and career plan that serve as their “application” to the program.
Update: Congratulations! You were one of the seven employees selected for the program this year. You’ve been paired with a supportive mentor. As a result, you feel much more confident about testing out and developing new ideas that have broader implications outside the workplace. You have decided to take advantage of the opportunity to develop recommendations around a challenge you feel very excited and passionate about addressing. Your mentor has offered to help you advance your recommendations and was very clear during the meeting that developing good recommendations for both academic and professional contexts requires the same thorough and objective examination of the research surrounding the challenge.
Directions
Recommendations Brief with Research (2,000–2,500 words)
You and your mentor previously prepared and refined a list of opportunities that interested you in the Selecting Your Complex Challenge document. For this challenge, select the research question that most interests you, ensuring you address all elements in the rubric.
Challenge: Describe your complex challenge and factors that contribute to the complexity of this issue:Demographics of the individuals/group affected by challenge
Magnitude of the issue in community affected by challenge
Commonly held assumptions or obstacles around this issue
Social conditions that exist specific to this challenge
Cultural or societal issues specific to this challenge
Discipline-specific subject or branch of knowledge
Research: You and your mentor have discussed the importance of making your case with evidence-based research, as appropriate to the discipline, that informs your recommendations.Annotated Bibliography: Select seven resources to analyze that are relevant to your challenge. These primary or secondary sources (conferences, dissertations, patents, journal studies, journal articles, technical reports, articles in scholarly journals, government policies, laws, or legislation) should address the challenge you have selected and inform the recommendations you make:Identify the source authors and discuss their place in society
Discuss the purpose of the piece and why it was written
Explain the value or ideas behind the content in the source
Address the credibility of the piece (why or why not)
Your Methods: Include research that is appropriate to the methods that would be used by the professionals using the particular lenses you choose to address your research question. This may include qualitative data, quantitative data, or both.Qualitative research that provides context and information on aspects of your challenge and informs your recommendationsCase studies that address issues relevant to your challenge
Comparisons on issues relevant to your challenge
Information on focus groups or interviews that were conducted and tackle questions relevant to your challenge
Quantitative research that is grounded in numerical evidence and informs your recommendations. For example, if your challenge is on quality of water, you would want to have quantitative data from impacted communities, such as scientific data that supports your recommendations.Survey data
Chi square
Correlation
Time Series
T-Test
ANOVA
Recommendations:Solution: Propose a specific course of action or actions that represent a reasonable solution for your complex challenge, supported by at least five of the most appropriate sources in your annotated bibliographyApplicable methods
Applicable tools or technologies
Necessary resources
Interpretation: Discuss the research and how your interpretation supports your recommendationsWhat the research says in regard to the challenge you are addressing and recommendations you make
How you see this research as supporting the recommendations you are making
Significance: Discuss the significance and limitations of the research in supporting your recommendationsGeographical global/national/local impacts
Cultural, technological, scientific, etc., aspects
Conclusion: Defend the action or course of action you have recommended over the alternatives based on:Utility of the type of methods or methodologies in addressing previous challenges of this type
Necessary resources, tools/technologies to implement proposed recommendations
Implications of your proposed recommendationsEthical effects or consequences
Any additional concerns around implementing the specific course of action or actions, if applicable
What to Submit
Every project has a deliverable or deliverables, which are the files that must be submitted before your project can be assessed. For this project, you must submit the following:
Recommendations Brief with Research (2,000–2,500 words)
Create a research and recommendations brief that explores a complex challenge using evidence-based practices and appropriate methods of a given discipline to inform reasonable recommendations for a course of action or actions.

Communicate a position related to a complex issue in a civic context

Training opportunities in the workplace (professional development) have become a sound investment for employers. In addition to reducing recruiting and retention costs, professional development has been demonstrated to boost productivity and job satisfaction. For employees, it also offers new opportunities for enhancing their skills and offers additional opportunities for positioning themselves for new opportunities within the organization outside of regular promotions. The participants are paired with mentors from leaders across the company. Employees each submit a letter and career plan that serve as their “application” to the program.
Update: You have just passed the mid-year mark of a professional enrichment program you were selected to participate in, and you are eager and ready to face new challenges directly. Your leadership has just announced they want to introduce a new aspect to the program. They will pilot this aspect with your group this year. The intent of this aspect is not just to grow you professionally within the organization but in broader settings as a member of larger communities. You have been requested to identify an issue that impacts the quality of life within a community of your choice and create a proposal to present in a civic setting to your audience. You strategize with your mentor and agree that once you select an issue, you will put together a proposal and presentation plan and draft presentation. This provides you with the opportunity to receive feedback from your mentor prior to presenting to your audience (the individuals or group who would have a vested interest in this issue).
Directions
Part 1: Proposal and Presentation Plan (approximately 1,000 words)You will draft your proposal and your plan for communicating it prior to beginning to create the presentation itself to ensure you are establishing a clear narrative for your audience. Your mentor has also requested that you provide an analysis of your audience and how you will be addressing them (i.e., the location and format) to ensure that your presentation is suitable for this audience. This will ensure your mentor can provide you the best possible feedback.
Complex Issue: Select a complex issue from the provided list. Describe the “who” and “what” behind the issue you have selected so that your mentor can provide you feedback on the appropriateness of how you’ve situated the problem and your proposal for addressing it for your audience:
Issue explanation
Sociopolitical and historical context of the issue
Importance to the stakeholders in impacted community
Annotated Bibliography: Remember, your mentor has been very clear that an appeal to your audience’s passions is not sufficient in addressing your complex issue. Provide research and evidence that supports your explanation of the complex issue and your recommendations around this issue:
Use relevant and credible sources that represent a variety of perspectives
Explain how sources inform potential and logical next steps based on resources
Your Position and Course of Action: Next, address the “why” behind the issue in your proposal ensuring you:
Explain your position on this issue
Describe a logical course of action or actions aligned with your proposal and supported by evidence
Audience Analysis: Lastly, look carefully at the “who” again and “where.” Potentially there will be individuals in your audience from diverse cultures aside from your primary audience. Discuss the following and how you will ensure your visuals and verbal or text narrative will address:
Norms for the public venue and civic context in which you are presenting
Communication strategies appropriate in addressing your primary audience
Communication strategies appropriate in addressing multicultural audiences that differ from your primary audience (for example, are there linguistic preferences or nonverbal signs that would be preferable or not preferable?)
Part 2: Proposal Presentation (10–15 slides with speaker notes in slide deck, or 15-minute video with transcript)Now that you’ve completed your plan and have a concrete approach around your idea, you feel even more confident about communicating your position! You have many choices for presenting yourself (slide deck with speaker notes or video with transcript). You know your choice will be the “how” behind communicating your position. Your choice of vehicle (slide deck or video) and the information you include in the speaker notes or transcript must address all of the following:
Presentation of Issue: Set the stage for your audience:
Situate your issue by clearly identifying it
Briefly describe the sociopolitical context (local, regional, national, or global)
Recommendation: Ensure you concisely and clearly cover:
Main IdeaArticulate your main idea
Discuss why it is important
Use relevant and credible sources
Call to ActionDescribe a logical course of action or actions aligned with main idea
Include potential benefits and drawbacks
Communication of Explanation: Ensure you are using your speaker notes or video narration/transcript to ensure your narrative:
Aligns to the norms of the public venue in which you are presenting
Addresses cultural needs and expectations of the group
Appropriate Practices: Use conventions that are:
Appropriate to persuasive argumentClear and logical
Suitable for a variety of cultural backgroundsEliminate figurative language such as metaphors, idioms, similes, etc.
Enhance the accessibility of your information with alternative text or transcripts that identify verbal or visual content
Necessary to avoid communicating bias, either intended or unintended
Articulation of Response: Clearly convey meaning, demonstrating an understanding of audience and purpose:
Correct grammarAvoid slang and jargon
Sentence structure
Spelling

After comprehensively reading Chapter 11 of your textbook, please respond to these questions. Your responses can be brief and informal, but do make sure that they are thoughtful and reflect a thorough and comprehensive reading of this chapter.
1. Reflect on your learning here at {Will tell you school once accepted} and use Bloom’s Taxonomy to analyze your experience here. At what level of Bloom’s Taxonomy do you believe most of your learning has occurred? Why? Is that positive or negative or mixed? Blooms Taxonomy videos that you have to plz watch: 2. Continuing to reflect on your leering at {Will tell you school once accepted}, at what level do you think your learning, at least part of the time, should be (in other words, what do you find the best, most useful, most desirable level on Bloom’s Taxonomy)? Why do you think that? What could be changed at CSUN to move your learning more toward that level of Bloom’s Taxonomy?
3. Finally, use the “Learning, Pedagogy, and Training Effectiveness” model discussed in Chapter 11 to continue to reflect on your learning here at {Will tell you school once accepted}. To what extent do you believe your “head,” “heart,” and “hand” has been engaged here? What is the balance between these three factors — are they attended to equally or is there one or more that is more of a focus than others? Is that a good thing, bad thing, or mixed thing? Why? To what extent is creating a synthesis between head, heart, and had the responsibility of the educational institution and to what extent do you believe this is your responsibility? Why?
