MUST HAVE AND KNOW HOW TO USE AUTOCAD
OBJECTIVES: 1- Learn how to create interior elevations from floor and ceiling plans using industry standard line qualities, symbols, etc. / 2- Learn some of the American Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines for commercial toilet rooms. / 3- Learn how interior finishes are documented in interior elevations. / 4- Learn how they are to be laid out on a sheet, numbered and referenced to the construction plan.
NOTE: You are to draw the south elevation of the lobby/reception area, the west wall of the open office and reception area and all the restroom walls. And then you are to tag all the various finishes found in the interior elevations and put the drawing title under each elevation.

OBJECTIVES: 1- To learn the various architectural tags used within construction drawings – what they represent and where they are used. / 2- Use CAD attributes to develop standardized symbols, many of which will be used in Exercise 5 & Assignment 2.
DIRECTIONS: Create a wblock for each architectural tag. Save them in a subfolder named Wblock. Each tag should be named as illustrated in the sample file. Create the Exercise 4 drawing and insert each of the wblocks at 1/4″ scale onto layer A-Note, color 3. Input realistic tag values. (For example, a ceiling height would be 8′-0″, a wall type could be a number, a window value could be letter A, door and note tags a single or double-digit number, etc.)

Notes:
1) Add room names utilizing the basic TEXT command. (Room name with room numbers will be redone differently in Assignment 1B.)
2) You are to include all the building dimensions. (Do not draw the lounge’s furniture dimensions as they are provided for reference only.)
3) Insert tables and chairs as blocks that consist of 5 ft square table in both buildings.
4) The PDF’s are to be printed at 1/8″ scale and formatted onto 24×36 sheets.

For those that do not know how to read the architectural scale, read the below information which points you to watching a recommended YouTube video on the subject. As stated in week #1, you should buy an architectural scale immediately. You will need it while learning how to read and use it.
There are many on YouTube. I chose one that appears to do a very good job at verbally AND visually explaining things so if you are unfamiliar with how to use the scale, look at this 8 minute video. If you have questions, you should contact me during the arranged office hours to discuss things. And feel free to watch other videos you may find in the YouTube search for “using the architectural scale”
Submittal: Print out the attached pdf and after writing your measurement of each side of every shape, you are to submit it. You are to scan the drawing and submit it. (EX3-Last Name.pdf or EX3-Last Name.jpg)
NOTE: Write all dimensions in feet and inches! For example, something that measures 9-1/2 ft should be written 9′-6″ If a side measures 7 ft, you are to write 7′-0″ Do not use decimals or feet & inch abbreviations. (This is the standard convention for writing measurements in the United States – do not deviate from this standard.)
