These are short written assignments of three paragraphs that provide practice analyzing and describing choreographic and cinematic strategies used within dance films, specifically pre-1960 American Movie Musicals. The first paragraph answers the general information of who/what/when/where, the second paragraph address the artist’s special choreographic and/or cinematic contributions to the field, and the third paragraph gives a personal response to the film. Begin by contextualizing the persons and time period. Then clearly state the choreographic/cinematic strategy unique to the primary artist/film being discussed. What exactly were their contributions to the screen as presented by the professor’s lecture? Conclude with your personal experience of watching this work. While internet research is useful, it is not the primary reason for these assignments.
