Overview
The project proposal gives you the opportunity to choose a real-life application of using data from credible sources to make informed decisions. In this proposal, you will complete Part One of the project, as you examine the context of the data from your chosen sources. This proposal also builds toward Parts Two and Three of the project, in which you will expand on these responses and draw conclusions about the scenario you have chosen.
Before working on this project proposal, consult the Project Guidelines and Rubric to choose a scenario from the three options provided. The scenario you choose will also provide the background work on the project.
Directions
In this assignment, you will introduce your chosen scenario and discuss how math can be used to solve the problem. Refer to the Project Resources as necessary. Completing this assignment will result in a draft of the first part of your project. Complete this assignment using the Module Three Project Proposal Template linked in the Supporting Documents section.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
Describe how math is used in your chosen scenario.Consider whether you will use formulas, comparisons, proportions, percentages, conversions, or other applications of mathematics for data analysis.
Describe the specific mathematical elements that are presented in the scenario.Consider how parts of the scenario can be viewed from a mathematical perspective.
Describe the characteristics of quantitative data in your chosen scenario.Discuss how any of these characteristics of the data (mean, median, range, or standard deviation) can be used to understand the problem within your chosen scenario.Explain how the measures of center (such as the mean or median) can be used to understand what measure is “typical” or “average” in the data.
Explain how the measures of variability (such as the range or standard deviation) can be used to understand how spread out the data points are or to compare each data point to the mean.
Look for possible patterns or trends in the data.
Explain the relevance of quantitative reasoning in your chosen scenario.Consider how the data that is summarized in charts, tables, or diagrams can be interpreted and used to provide meaningful information about the context of your scenario.
What to Submit
Submit your completed Module Three Project Proposal Template for grading. Although you will refer to the sources in the Project Resources document, you will not refer to any sources from outside this course. All sources used, including those provided or student-sourced, should be cited in APA.

Overview
Throughout this course, you have explored how math is part of everyday life. You have applied mathematical techniques to approach various problems. For your project, you will choose one of the following scenarios and focus on a real-world problem that requires you to apply your problem-solving skills, mathematical knowledge, and research skills to analyze and support your findings. You will also make informed decisions by critically examining elements of problems similar to ones you may face in your day-to-day professional or personal life.
Scenario 1
Energy drinks seem to be everywhere! At a recent school sports event, you noticed that energy drinks were available in vending machines and concession stands. Your state representative has introduced a bill that will prohibit the sale of energy drinks to minors. You plan to contact your state representative regarding this new bill. In preparation for contacting your state representative, you will gather information related to the topic. You may consider the long-term costs of negative health impacts in support of the bill, or the cost impact to the school in lost revenue if you are against the bill.
Scenario 2
You are concerned by the rising prices of fresh produce and want to encourage healthy eating in your area. You notice that a local middle school has an undeveloped area of land that could be used for a community garden. You decide to research the benefits of community gardens to present at a school board meeting. In preparation for the presentation, you will investigate the advantages of community gardens that are environmentally friendly and economically viable. While preparing for the meeting, you will collect data that relates to long-term environmental, economic, and social well-being. This will include evaluating the costs and benefits of creating and maintaining a community garden.
Scenario 3
You volunteer for a local youth community resource center, and you have been asked to prepare an educational presentation about financial wellness. In preparation for the presentation, you will gather information related to financial wellness that has relevance for young people. You may consider including topics like savings, budgeting, and loans.
