Compare and contrast the qualities of heroes in the Anglo-Saxon era to modern society. Write an essay in which you explain how Beowulf is a true hero in his culture and then analyze whether Beowulf would be accepted as a hero in today’s world.
1. Beowulf as a character displays many heroic traits that qualify him as an epic hero. In our excerpts, we see that he embodies the values of the Anglo-Saxon warrior: strength, courage, loyalty and fame. Eventually, we see Beowulf exemplify the traits of a good king: protector and provider. Explain how Beowulf is the ideal Anglo-Saxon hero using examples from our excerpts.
2. Next, consider our definition of modern heroes. Would Beowulf (or somebody like Beowulf) be considered a hero in our modern society? Why or why not?

1. The average life span of a smartphone battery is expected to be 2.8 years, with a
standard deviation of 0.3 years. The battery manufacturer wants to offer a
warranty for its customers to receive a free replacement if the battery fails during
the first two years. Develop a Monte Carlo Simulation for the lifespan of 500
batteries to identify the number of batteries they might have to replace.
2. During a pandemic, a local health official aims to launch an awareness campaign
emphasizing the importance of wearing face masks and practicing proper hand
hygiene. The campaign will be broadcast on both TV and radio. For every minute
the campaign airs on TV, it is expected to reach 300 viewers, while on the radio, it
will reach 150 listeners. The cost for advertising on the local news channel is $180
per minute, and on the radio, it’s $85 per minute. Additionally, a part-time assistant
is available to assist with the campaign for a total of 150 hours. Administrative
support for each TV minute requires 2 hours from the assistant, while for each
radio minute, it takes 1.5 hours. Given a budget constraint of $10,000, we need to
determine the optimal allocation of minutes for TV and radio to maximize
awareness.
