You are to write a paper with the topic being Newark, New Jersey’s past and present art and cultural conditions (music, dance, film, video, poetry, literature, visual art, etc.)
This critical commentary should consist of roughly 4-5 pages double-spaced and typed pages…accompanied by 1-2 pages discussing the reason for your subject choice, how you would relate it to the content and methodology of this course, and your thoughts about what you learned and any other issues and ideas raised by your immersion into the subject matter.
When discussing the reasoning you chose this topic, mention how the city of Newark is important to me as I have been immersed in its culture for quite some time. This is because I went to school there the last four years and have been working there for the past year. Also mention how I am a big fan of Lauryn Hill, who is from Newark, and I would love to dive deeper into her.
You should utilize at least 1-2 outside sources– whether online articles, essays, social media, persons of interest and in the know, whatever seems most advantageous to you.
